Disability Specialist

SEARCH Homeless Center has created a new position to focus on assisting homeless clients apply for and receive SSI benefits. The goal of this new initiative is to identify existing SEARCH clients with a strong match for SSI eligibility criteria and then assist them in completing and filing applications with a high approval rate. Target results will be 40 approved cases in the first year. Activities will include assessments, collection of required personal and medical documentation, maintaining frequent contact with clients to ensure we can locate them when necessary, and accompanying the clients in the community as needed at appointments related to their disability application. Primary referral source for clients will be from within SEARCH's Resource Center Program - a day shelter for Houston's homeless. Related Bachelore's Degree required, and we prefer 2 years experience in a social service setting. Prior experience completing SSI application forms strongly preferred. Will occasionally drive SEARCH vehicles for client transportation, thus need Texas Drivers License in good standing and a safe driving record for last 3 years.
