Compensation and Benefits

 

The Middle Tennessee Council of the Boy Scouts of America offers a multitude of benefits for professionals. The benefits offered are considered to be among the best in the nonprofit sector. The package includes major medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage in addition to long-term disability, accident, and life insurance, and retirement plans.

 

Starting Pay

 

The minimum starting salary for a professional Scouter in a beginning management position is more than $35,000. Annual salary increases are based on an individual's contributions and overall performance.  A vehicle is provided for to use in sales work.

 

Qualifications for Employment

 

Do you have the background needed for a career as a Scouting professional? Our self-starting leaders are frequently called upon to multi-task and combine many skills to get the job done. The basic qualifications are:Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university United States citizenship or declared intention to become a U.S. citizen Adult – 21 years of agePeople-oriented, having the ability to work well with adult volunteers, community and business leaders, and representatives of other organizations Able to work varied hours when necessary to achieve positive objectives / willing to work evenings and 1 weekend per monthWilling to relocate within the 37 counties of middle Tennessee - must live in the district that you serviceBelieve in the BSA and subscribe to its principles and standards Be approved to receive a professional Scouting commission

Day in the Life of a District Executive

 

The responsibilities are as broad as the tasks are varied and no 2 days are the same for a typical District Executive.  No matter where they work, in the city, the suburbs or the country side, one thing is for certain- this is anything but a “cubicle” job.  Our field staff is typically found in the community, not behind a desk.  The job of the professional Scouter is to recruit, train and motivate the BSA’s adult volunteers.  In addition, they work with community leaders to rally public support for the Scouting programs.
