Electronic Graphics Specialist

About AGU:

AGU is a worldwide scientific community that advances, through unselfish cooperation in research, the understanding of Earth and space for the benefit of humanity.

Summary of Position:

The Electronic Graphics Specialist participates in Quality Control procedures by providing quality checks on assigned volumes of files to ensure adherence to AGU specifications and standards; maintains organized and logically structured directories and subdirectories of working files and archival material so that material can be quickly and accurately recalled when needed; and assists with production activities as required.

Accountabilities:Upload incoming electronic images onto RAN folder files to Asura each morning for graphic staff to retrieve, review, and size images.Serve as a contact point for all initial and revised emails sent to/from authors providing helpful information pertaining to manuscript images – 60 to 80 new checksite emails per week and approximately 50 to 70 replies from authors per week.Create AGU Journal Checksite in FTP site.Upload images for all AGU journals into pdf, online, log, revised and stylized folders, and email authors specific links to review and/or upload revisions to their unpublished articles before image approval.Monitor all incoming and outgoing emails by tracking all articles while in the image center.Generate weekly reports to maintain and track manuscripts currently in the image center.Follow-up and send reminder emails to authors non responsive to new or revised manuscripts in a timely manner – 50 reminder emails per week.Generate tracking report system in Excel for monthly status of all manuscripts currently in the image center.Schedule bi-weekly Composition and Graphics departmental staff meetings.Update manuscript status daily in RMTS for the Editorial Department to proceed with the manuscript production.

Qualifications:At least 1 year of general graphic arts experience, preferably in a fast-paced publishing environment.Thorough understanding of Windows file management.Demonstrated ability to work quickly while maintaining high quality standards, and adhering to prescribed specification and standards.Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate easily and effectively with Ph.D. scientists and a demonstrated organizational ability.Contact Information:
