Executive Director, Hope Commission
The Wilmington Hope Commission, created by the Mayor of the City of Wilmington, is a small non profit organization with the mightiest of missions- to address the social ills in the inner city of Wilmington that give rise to an unacceptable level of youth violence. The Hope Commission is committed to finding new ways of having the largest positive impact on the affected communities in the shortest time, thereby establishing credibility in the neighborhoods and among the political and business communities. Given the difficulty of its task the commission is receptive to trying new approaches to intractable problems. It seeks bold partners in the search for progress and is determined to define success on its own terms. Its board is representative of a broad cross section of the City and State and includes members of the business and political classes, the judiciary, law enforcement, state government, non profits, and the neighborhoods. The board has articulated a clear strategic approach to reaching its goals. It is searching for an executive director to implement its strategies and be part of an effort to appreciably change the trajectory of the lives of many of the citizens living in our inner cities. The executive director will serve as chief executive officer of the organization with complete authority over day to day operations and oversight of the corporation under the direction and approval of the Board of Directors as detailed in the constitution, by laws, and policies of the corporation. Responsibilities include the following: 1. Maintaining frequent communications with the organization's Board of Directors with the objectives of informing the board as well as drawing on the assets available among its members.2. Providing oversight and direction to all program initiatives in support of the organization’s mission,3. Providing fiscal oversight and accountability;4. Hiring, supervising and evaluating all staff;5. Serving as the organization's chief development officer;6. Interpreting and carrying out the organization's mission when collaborating with community-based organizations, civic organizations, governmental agencies, corporations, foundations, and the public-at-large;7. Serving as the organization's primary spokesperson and oversee public relations activities. 8. Serving as the organization's authorized representative with respect to contracts, grants and other binding agreements.9. Creating a task oriented environment that will ensure that the objectives of the Board are advanced. Qualifications: Experience in program management and staff supervision; Experience in non profit operations and fiscal management; Excellent communications skills with multimedia outlets; Broad understanding of program monitoring and evaluation; Experience working with funding sources, familiarity with grant writing and overall fund development issues; Advanced degree in related fields preferred; Excellent interpersonal, teambuilding and presentation skills; Demonstrated record of measurable achievement in an urban environment, interacting with a variety of community, business and political stakeholders. A will to challenge the prevailing condition in our inner cities.
