Job Summary
Under general supervision, conducts investigations by assembling test setups, recording test data, conducting standardized tests, and assembling and disassembling products, materials and equipment in the Fire Protection division. Develops working knowledge of the job, product variety, test methods, instrumentation, systems, materials, standards, etc.
Job ResponsibilityBuilds and/or adapts setup and test equipment for performance of tests. Performs standardized tests using general laboratory equipment. Performs routine care of designated test equipment and work area. Operates computer terminal to extract/input readily available information and to use available software.Examines test samples, reads measuring instruments and reviews test data with supervisor. Operates designated machines that may include furnaces, ovens, hydraulic equipment, electrical test equipment, temperature measuring devices, tensile testers, analytical balances, meters, hand tools, movable ceilings, overhead crane, pumping systems, fire suppression systems and special laboratory equipment as directed.Receives instructions from and reports data to section heads, group leaders and personnel in own department. Records observed or calculated data on appropriate data sheets.Operates, maintains and calibrates specialized data acquisition equipment, gas analysis equipment, and many types of sophisticated measuring instruments on a daily basis.Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.Performs other duties as directed.
Required SkillsWorking knowledge of the safe use of power tools and construction equipment.Basic Knowledge of fire suppression techniques.Demonstrated ability to perform basic Fire Protection laboratory tests and record basic laboratory results. Higher Secondary Education ( High School Diploma)Two years related experience required.
Additional Skills/RequirementsJob duties include physical labor working in a commercial / industrial construction environment. General construction experience such as, carpentry, concrete, welding and / or steel work preferred.
