HABILITATION SPECIALIST AND YOUTH HABILITATION SPECIALIST - Human Services

Liberty Resources is currently seeking a Habilitation Specialist for our Manlius Individualized Residential Alternative (IRA.) This program serves young adults with developmental disabilities.  The Habilitation Specialists will assist residents in the IRA by providing instruction and attendant care to the residents with activities of daily living. Habilitation Specialists are positive role models for the consumers and work to expand and integrate them into the community.  Every Specialist is regularly involved in recreational activities which help support the goals established by each resident and increase their independence.

 

Requirements:

Bachelor's or Associates Degree w/ two (2) years of experience in the field; or an equivalent combination education and experience.  Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to use personal car for transporting consumers. Strong interpersonal skills. Effective oral and written communication skills. Must constantly move about; ability to work independently ascend/descend stairways; observe, instruct, supervise consumers in all activities of daily living.  Ability to lift, transfer or physically assist consumers may be required. Demonstrate sound judgment, aptitude and ability to work with MR/DD population. Computer competency needed. Is sensitive to cultural differences and able to incorporate that understanding into service provision.

 

Liberty Resources is also seeking a Youth Habilitation Specialist who will be serving mild to moderately developmentally disabled youth with complex service and support needs in a residential setting.

· The Youth Habilitation Specialist will be part of a strength based team supporting the youth and family to achieve and maintain a better quality of life.

· The Specialist is also responsible for maintaining records and documentation of services provided for compliance with Medicaid requirements

· Responsible for documenting consumer activities and progress toward specific goals.

 


Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree plus two years experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to use personal car for transporting consumers. First Aid and CPR certification preferred. Strong interpersonal skills. Effective oral and written communication skills. Creative problem solving and planning skills and ability to develop goal plans. Demonstrate sound judgement, aptitude and ability to work with MR/DD youth population and their families. Ability to work independently and with collateral providers. Ability to lift, transfer or physically assist consumers may be required. Is sensitive to cultural differences and able to incorporate that understanding into service provision.
