Human Resources Assistant

 

Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the poor and homeless. Established in 1891, URM is the largest rescue mission of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. We provide a comprehensive array of emergency and long-term services at no cost to guests, including: food, shelter, clothing, medical and dental care, recovery programs, transitional housing, legal assistance, education, counseling, and job training to needy men, women, children, and families.

 

Responsibilities

 

Candidate must enjoy working in Ministry related environment. Provides broad-based administrative support to the Human Resources office.  Handles in-coming calls; prepares and processes correspondence; prepares reports and maintains office records and files. Responsibilities are to:

 



·         Provide administrative support to the Human Resources office

·         Coordinate meetings/seminars as needed, i.e., managers meetings, new hire orientations, benefit orientations, 401(k) open enrollment, etc. Maintain Calendar and appointments for HR Director.

·         Assist with the recruiting process i.e., resume tracking, coordinating interviews, initial phone screening, fax background check forms, etc.

·         Prepare new hire/benefit packets and maintain a ready inventory

·         Assist with new hire processing, i.e., administer new hire packages & orientation materials for non-exempt personnel, process for badges and access card, monthly reporting to EDD, input initial cobra notification

·         Coordinate and place Metrolink order requests and invoice

·         Assist with employee termination process by preparing necessary exit interview forms

·      Assist employee with wage garnishment notices, i.e. employee notification, follow-up calls with County and other government offices

·         Administer Workers Compensation by processing injury incident reports, directing employee to appropriate medical facilities, obtaining completed appropriate documentation for W/C filing

·      Maintain HR bulletin boards, law posters, wage orders, etc.

·      Assists the HR Manager with employee recognition awards and special events

·      Lead Social Committee in planning and setting up for employee events and activities

·         Maintain personnel and other related files, heavy phone volume, copy, fax and distribute correspondence, mail or other printed materials; order and maintain office supplies and materials

·         Due to the high visibility of this position, the employee must also maintain a professional appearance and demeanor. Will be involved with work of a highly confidential/sensitive nature and must maintain confidentiality at all times

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

Equivalent of Bachelor’s degree and at least 2-3 years progressively responsible, related experience.  Must have basic knowledge of benefits administration, leave of absences and workers compensation. Excellent planning, organizing, verbal/written communication, research and PC Skills.
