Independent Living Mentors supporting adults with developmental disabilities - The Arc of East Middl

The Arc of East Middlesex has openings for Independent Living Mentors.  Support services will be provided by mentors from our Supported Living team.  Supported living has been designed to provide an environment in which an adult with developmental disabilities can achieve as much independence as possible.  Within walking distance to stores, restaurants, parks, community services and public transportation, our settings are particularly ideal for young adults moving from post-graduate educational settings or from home.  Independent Living Mentors may help with job training, money management, health care, cooking and other daily living skills.

Becoming a Independent Living Mentor can be one of the most satisfying and rewarding experiences you’ll ever have! This is the perfect job for anyone majoring in the Human or Social Service fields! We are looking for people from the Saugus, Reading, Wakefield, Lynnfield areas who are caring, compassionate, committed, responsible, and good listeners to work with some of our truly unique individuals. 5-20 hours, evenings and weekends.  $15.00 per hour.

Responsibilities: This position is responsible for teaching life, daily living, and social skills to individuals in a variety of domains using the home and community as the classroom.

Assist individuals in developing maximum independence (budgeting, time management, use of leisure time, laundry, transportation, etc.) Support individuals in recreational, educational and ADL needsRecognize and support the individual’s rights to make decisions and choices. Assist individuals in identifying and accessing community resources.Valid Massachusetts Driver’s license and car required.
