Job Developer - WeCare Program

The Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service is one of Brooklyn’s oldest and largest non-sectarian social services agencies.  The Brooklyn Bureau has been a leading provider of social services to families, children, and adults with disabilities since 1866.  The Brooklyn Bureau, which presently serves more than 10,000 individuals annually, is committed to a broad and diverse range of services including prevention of foster care placement; crisis intervention; early childhood and after school education; and vocational training, job placement, and clinical services to adults with physical and developmental disabilities, and histories of mental illness. 

 

WeCARE assists thousands of adults with mild disabilities make the transition from welfare to work, with GED and ESL classes, computer training, resume assistance and preparation for interviews.  Last year, the Brooklyn Bureau placed more than 450 people with mild disabilities into paying jobs.

 

WeCARE,, is seeking an individual with extensive job development and job placement experience to work in a fast-paced welfare-to-work program for adults with disabilities.

 

Responsibilities:

Monitor a caseload of at least 35 participants

Work with employers, colleagues and other service providers to maximize placements

Conduct mock interviews with clients. Escort clients to interviews as needed

Reach out to employers by in-person visits, phone calls, faxes and e-mails

Reach out by phone and mail to clients who do not actively participate

Collaborate with ARBOR case managers on cases that fail to comply or require medical re- evaluation, family care exemption or are in need of other support services

Submit placement information and verification to Retention Specialists

Supervise and train WEP workers.  Create progress notes

Assist Retention Specialist in obtaining milestone verifications, if needed

Other duties as necessary

 

Requirements:

Proven record of job placements with similar clientele

Excellent knowledge of barriers to employment faced by individuals with disabilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; time management skills; interpersonal skills

Very good knowledge of entitlements and HRA systems; TANF population;

And employer needs

High levels of energy to meet performance outcomes

Minimum of three years experience placing individuals with special needs in employment. 

Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, social services or related field preferred.
