LIBRARIAN
Our Client, Stewart's Caring Place (SCP), a cancer wellness and educational resource center, is looking to hire a Librarian to manage and run the Organization's Resource Center. The Librarian will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and continued expansion and development of the Resource Library. This individual will be the primary information resource contact and will provide a variety of information services on cancer, cancer treatments and other related topics to SCP's Participants and Members of the Community. Additionally, they will be responsible for maintaining accurate, relevant, and current information on the Stewart’s Caring Place web site. This position will report directly to the Executive Director. RESPONSIBILITIES· Provides professional assistance to participants in locating cancer-related information in a variety of formats, including books, periodicals, newsletters, Internet resources, videos, and pamphlets.· Perform basic library functions, including participant registration, circulation, processing and cataloging new library materials.· Prepare subject guides, path finders, and bibliographies.· Supervise Stewart’s Caring Place volunteers and support staff of the resource library.· Acquire and discard library resources according to established collection development policies.· Assists in developing resource library’s annual budget.· Promote and market the resource library’s services to participants and the Community.· Develop and evaluate resource library’s goals and objectives, anticipating planning for future needs.· Compile statistical reports on library usage.· Participate in meetings to coordinate resource library’s goals and objectives with those of the organization.· Ongoing support of Stewart’s Caring Place’s overall goals and objectives by assisting co-worker, from time to time, with non-library projects/activities. POSITION REQUIREMENTS· Degree in library science from an American Library Association University. A Masters Degree in library sciences is preferred.· Minimum one year experience in a professional library position, preferably in a health science library.· Working knowledge of basic medical terminology.· Experience with library and Microsoft Office software and technology.· Experience providing health reference service to the public. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS· Excellent public service and communication skills.· High degree of sensitivity and confidentiality when providing assistance to participants.· Experience using the Internet for information retrieval including the ability to evaluate web resources for quality and reliability.· Ability to use and troubleshoot computer hardware and software.· Graphic design skills a plus.
