This position is located at the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla, CA (near Fresno,Ca)

 

Position Summary:

 

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) functions as the supervisor of all clinical aspects of a prison based substance abuse treatment program by directing, supervising, and monitoring the work of clinical staff in the provision of compassionate, trauma informed, gender responsive substance abuse treatment services and aftercare planning for assigned inmates.  Acts as surrogate for Program Director, as assigned.  The LCSW provides individual therapy, treatment planning, case management, client advocacy, counseling, and crisis intervention.  Provides, coordinates and arranges for family therapy services for program participants.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Ø  Collaborates with the Corrections Counselor III (CCIII) and the Supervising Counselor(s) to determine continuum of care for program participants.

 

Ø  Directs program counseling staff in the day to day provision of family focused, trauma-informed mental health services to the in-prison treatment community.

 

Ø  Provides individual, family, and group counseling and participates in case conferences.

 

Ø  Reviews curricula and other program materials for clinical appropriateness, and approves the acquisition of all new curricula and other programming applications/approaches/materials.

 

Ø  Assures that counseling staff have been adequately trained in the use of any curriculum being delivered to clients.

 

Ø  Directly, and through subordinate staff, supervises the assessment of all newly arrived inmates; supervises clinical staff in scheduling all inmates into treatment activities; assigns caseloads; monitors and evaluates clinicians in the performance of their duties.

 

Ø  Reviews and approves all clinical documentation (treatment progress, treatment plans, and client coordination of care plan) and conducts regular quality assurance and quality improvement reviews to ensure that all appropriate record-keeping is performed on a timely basis.

 

Ø  Assesses and evaluates strengths and weaknesses of staff; develops methods to utilize and enhance strengths, isolate and minimize weaknesses. 

 

Ø  Develops, plans, coordinates, and facilitates the Family Services Program including family recreational activities, multi-family and individual family groups.

 

Ø  Acts as the program’s liaison with families and offers recommendations for program development and improvement.

 

Ø  Provides ongoing client assessment to identify changing needs pertaining to the individual and family treatment as well as development strategy

 

Ø  Conducts regular chart reviews, ensuring that all appropriate record keeping is performed on a timely basis and that all governing agency regulations are met.

 

Ø  Attends meetings called by the Program Director and participates in discussions concerning the revision, improvement and expansion of existing programs and offers recommendations.

 

Ø  Participates in Quality Assurance, Quality Improvement, and Utilization Review activities and makes recommendations to the Program Director for plans of corrections.

 

Ø  Acts as liaison with CDCR custody and classification staff and participates in inmate classification hearings.

 

Ø  Maintains a culture based on safety, respect, strength and dignity. 

 

Ø  Maintains established performance and conduct standards in accordance with Phoenix House and contractual expectations.

 

Ø  May perform other duties as assigned

 

Supervision:

 

General supervision is exercised over in-prison counseling staff.  General direction is received from the Program Director. Functional direction is received from the Director of Women’s Services.

 

Knowledge of:

 

Ø  Demonstrated familiarity and understanding of the treatment implications of a woman’s life experience.

Ø  Clinical elements of substance abuse treatment for a criminal justice population.

Ø  Trauma, Attachment, and Relational Models.

Ø  Methods for appropriate clinical documentation in a treatment setting.

Ø  Techniques for effective assessments and case management.

Ø  Principles of business decision making.

 

Ability to: 

 

Ø  Provide empathetic, trauma informed, consultative services to inmates.

Ø  Demonstrate effective communications and interpersonal skills with adolescents, team members, parents, and others.

Ø  Write clear and concise reports and to interpret statistical data.

Ø  Analyze therapeutic processes and determine means of maintaining and/or increase efficiencies.

Ø  Exercise independent judgment and leadership, analyze situations accurately and take effective action.

Ø  Lead a group of diverse personalities.

Ø  Explain technical terminology to non-experts.

Ø  Instill and maintain a sense of professionalism within a high stress environment.

Ø  Speak effectively and make presentations before a variety of groups.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/ Experience:

 

Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Master of Arts or Science degree preferably in Social Work, or a related field;



Possession of a license or registration from the California Board of Behavioral Science to practice in the State of California as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist or Clinical Psychologist; or be Registered Intern eligible for supervised licensure status, and be eligible for licensure within two years of employment.

 

Three to Five years of experience in the delivery of substance abuse treatment counseling with an emphasis on developing and maintaining trauma informed and gender responsive environments;

 

Two years of full time experience supervising counseling staff in a substance abuse program (preferred).  

 

Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (F.A.C.T.) is preferred.

 

SPECIAL NOTES

 

1. Must possess a valid California Drivers license.

2. Non-Exempt from FLSA.

3.  Must meet CDCR security clearance requirements.

4.  Must be drug and alcohol free for a minimum of three (3) years.
