Manager of Special Events

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is a nationwide network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. As a national not-for-profit organization for the pancreatic cancer community, we are looking for a bright, ambitious, team-oriented,  individual who is comfortable in a growth-oriented and fast-paced organization to fill the role of Manager of Special Events.

 

 The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s comprehensive approach to fighting pancreatic cancer is unique. We advance research, support patients, implement community outreach programs and advocate on Capitol Hill to create hope, urgency and leadership in the fight against pancreatic cancer. We are here to support the pancreatic cancer community: the patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, researchers, volunteers and our donors. 

 

Our national headquarters are in El Segundo, California. 

 

GENERAL PURPOSE

This role is responsible for planning and implementing all special events, meetings and conferences.  This is not a fundraising position.

Tradeshow/Conferences

  Scientific Conferences

  Board Meetings

  Annual Fundraising Gala

  Nationwide Patient Educational Symposia

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Essential functions of the job are denoted by an asterisk (*).  Other duties may also be assigned.  Please note that the essential functions may vary depending on department size, organizational structure and/or geographic location.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to allow differently-abled individuals to perform the essential functions of the job.



· *Responsible for working with internal clients including, Research & Scientific Affairs, Government Affairs, Patient Services, and Community Outreach to identify event planning needs.

· *Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing all logistical aspects: events, meetings and conferences.



· *Oversees vendor relations with hotels, facilities, entertainment, production, graphic design, etc related to event planning.



· *Responsible for preparing, recommending and monitoring budgets for all special events, meetings and conferences.

 · *Carries out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner.



 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.  Please note that the minimum qualifications may vary based upon the department size and/or geographic location.

 

Knowledge:

 · At least 5 years related experience or equivalent 

· Demonstrated expertise in meeting and event planning.

 · MPI designation a plus.

Skills/Abilities: Exemplary organizational skills with strict attention to detailStrong customer focus with strong results orientation.Exemplary verbal communication skillsStrong contract negotiating skills with hotel and other event vendorsAbility to Develop and manage budgetsAbility to effectively manage multiple outside vendors and simultaneous projectsAbility to think outside of the box Ability to remain positive, proactive and professional in a pressure filled environment

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS: In general, the following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to allow differently-abled individuals to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Must be able to see, hear, speak and write clearly in order to communicate with employees and/or other customers; manual dexterity required for occasional reaching and lifting of small objects, and operating office equipment.

Travel as required for events offsite and out of state.
