Non-Profit Senior Accountant Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing monthly account analysis and preparing journal entries for several complex accounts including bonds and related activity, prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, payroll cash account and annuities.  Special projects are assigned as required and may include investigation and resolution of accounting issues, and responding to financial requests from outside agencies.

The Senior Accountant is also responsible for grants accounting.  This includes maintenance of various spreadsheets to track billing, deferred revenue, pending closures, indirect costs, and monthly grant accruals. Regular interaction with Grants Compliance Director and Principal Investigators is required and special projects may be requested to meet grant requirements.

Essential Non-Profit Senior Accountant Skills & Characteristics
BS/BA in Accounting, CPA preferred 2-5 years general ledger/financial statement accounting experienceProficient in Blackbaud software (Lawson g/l module through 2008), or able to learn the system quickly Organized and able to meet daily, weekly, and monthly deadlinesStrong analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills Strong knowledge of fund accounting and not-for-profit GAAP Able to interact positively with Finance and other staff as well as auditors, bankers and other external agencies
