Outreach Worker

For 37 years Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Inc., Bridge as we are known in the community, has been a leader and visionary in finding solutions to the needs of Boston’s homeless, runaway and high-risk youth. Bridge is the only agency in Boston offering a comprehensive continuum of age-appropriate free services to this unique population of youth. Programs include: Street Outreach & Mobile Medical Van; Runaway/Adolescent Programs; Counseling & Substance Abuse Program; Transitional Day Program; Health & Dental Services; Education and Career Development; and three Residential Programs.


Street outreach work at Bridge is the front-line service on which the entire program is based. Outreach workers make as many new contacts as possible each evening, while maintaining on-going relationships and support with previous clients. This position will focus on assessment, survival aid, and placement for street youth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Outreach
• Make contact with youth on the streets
• Intervene with youth and assess their needs
• Refer youth to Bridge, medical van, dental clinic, in-house prevention services, and/or other related local services
• Assess the street situation periodically to evaluate further needs

Administration
• Follow-up on clients
• Keep statistics and case records as required
• Participate in weekly program meeting
• Participate in monthly all staff meeting

Public Relations
• Serve as a liaison between the street population and established agencies
• Serve as a Youth Advocate

Diversity
• Ensure that all activities, services, and programs through Bridge are conducted in a manner that is sensitive to and shows respect for cultural and ethnic diversity for all Bridge clients

Other
• Other related tasks as required/requested

QUALIFICATIONS

• BA/BS Degree required or related degree
• Minimum of 1 year experience working with adolescents
• Minimum of 30 hours spent directly on the streets
• Valid Massachusetts drivers license required (car not required)
• Continuous clean driver’s record
• Valid Licenses as required

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervision with Outreach Coordinator
• Weekly Consultation with Clinical Consultant
