Program Director
HIRING PROGRAM DIRECTOR TO EXPAND INNOVATIVE YOUTH MODEL
Youth Advocacy Center Overview
Youth Advocacy Center is the leader in bringing self-advocacy education to young people from foster care and other government systems to break down barriers to participating citizenship. Founded over 15 years ago, Youth Advocacy Center is an independent, small, NYC-based organization dedicated to promoting the strengths and potential of individual teens. We created and tested the innovative, nationally recognized Getting Beyond the System self-advocacy seminar model (GBS), and provide information, workshops, seminars, and consulting about GBS. Youth Advocacy Center is now poised to reach more teens in NYC and around the country by partnering with like-minded community leaders and organizations to institute GBS for teens in their communities.
Position Summary
We seek an entrepreneurial Program Director to join our leadership team to take the program to the next level of growth. The Program Director will play a key role in expanding the impact and reach of GBS. The Program Director will collaborate closely with Youth Advocacy Center's co-founders to both solidify the GBS model in existing programs and bring GBS to new communities. This is a leadership and growth position for someone who wants the opportunity to bring a successful innovation to a wider audience nationally.
Responsibilities
The Program Director will be responsible for expanding the reach of GBS by:
· Learning from and providing support to current GBS partners.
· Developing efficient and effective means to advance the adoption of the GBS model in organizations.
· Developing appropriate new GBS partnerships that will be models for future replicators.
Position Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
· A graduate degree in law, policy, education, or business, plus at least 2 years experience in an advocacy or entrepreneurial environment.
· Demonstrated ability to take leadership and creatively solve problems.
· Successful experience with organizing new projects, and gaining support for projects from a range of stakeholders.
· A spirit of social entrepreneurship: enthusiasm about convincing audiences about the value of a 'new idea,' persistence in achieving goals, ability to be flexible, and enjoyment in overcoming challenges and obstacles.
· The conviction that every young person is capable of becoming a participating citizen.
· Demonstrated effective communications and analytical skills, including critical reading, listening, writing, and utilizing media.
· Comfort with working in a small office environment.
· Interest in connecting with a wide range of people and organizations around the country.
· Engagement with life-long learning.
Salary and Benefits
· Competitive, with potential for growth.
To Apply
By May 15, 2008, please send your resume with a cover letter explaining your interest and your professional experiences that demonstrate your ability to provide leadership in a small organization's development. Also describe your understanding of social entrepreneurship and its importance for improving the lives of others. Please email your resume and cover letter to progdir@youthadvocacycenter.org
