Public Relations Manager
The Intrepid Museum is looking for an experienced PR professional to create and manage all aspect of public relations and communications strategy for the museum. The desired candidate will work intimately with each department to ensure maximum visibility of museum programming, events and issues.
This is a great opportunity to be a part of our exciting and interactive team! The Intrepid Museum is gearing up for the re-opening of our new and improved museum complex for 2008!
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
§ Plan and direct development of communications designed to keep public informed of museum’s programs, activities, and accomplishments.
§ Research and develop new methods and venues to publicize the museum.
§ Arrange for media communications to meet needs, objectives, and policies of organization.
§ Prepare and distribute fact sheets, news releases, photographs, and video or tape recordings to media representatives and other persons who are interested in the museum’s activities and message.
§ Coordinate and maintain museum’s relationship with public relations firms.
§ Manage related material on Intrepid Museum website including press center to provide the most updated presentation to both press and site visitors.
§ Develop and coordinate museum-run events for promotional and marketing purposes, including themed weekends and other museum-run or managed events that drive attendance.
§ Manage all aspects of museum promotional events and public relations, responding to emergencies and troubleshooting as necessary.
§ Manage all collateral needed for press and public programming events in conjunction with the AVP Marketing.
§ Serve as contact person for all publicity surrounding museum events.
§ Manage and assist in developing public relations budget.
§ Organize and coordinate television public service announcements.
Candidate must have BA/BS in Marketing and two to four years related experience. Proficient computer knowledge and strong communications and interpersonal skills are required. Qualified candidate must be able to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and governmental regulations as well as write reports, business correspondence and exhibit materials. This position may require travel and working some weekends and holidays.
