Good Shepherd Services is a non-sectarian, social service and youth development agency which positively affects the lives of more than 18,000 children and families annually. STAFF RECRUITER
REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES
LOCATION: 305 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10001
HOURS: 35 Hours/Week
JOB SUMMARY: The Staff Recruiter is responsible for employee and volunteer recruitment and orientation efforts in the programs/departments specified.
MAJOR DUTIES: Consult with hiring managers in developing and implementing recruitment strategies that optimize the hiring process and ensure selection of best qualified candidates. Collaborate with hiring managers in determining job specifications for vacant positions. Finalize job descriptions with hiring managers and draft job ads for approval by Assistant Director. Assist Senior Employment Coordinator in exploring, recommending and maintaining catalog of external posting options. Also, in tandem with the Senior Employment Coordinator, cultivate and maintain relationships with external resources with emphasis on enhancing quality and diversity of applicants (e.g. job readiness programs, academic institutions and professional associations). Participate in recruitment events such as job fairs and volunteerism promotions. Screen incoming applications according to specifications. Forward qualified resumes to hiring managers for further review. Conduct screening interviews as needed. Recommend finalists for additional interviews with hiring managers. Assist hiring managers with selection process. Alert Assistant Director as needed for salary offer determinations or to resolve hiring issues as they arise. Regularly report status of current recruitment efforts to Assistant Director. Meet new employees to complete new hire paperwork. Coordinate with supervisors in scheduling employees for new hire training. Assist Senior Employment Coordinator and Assistant Director in the administration of internship programs. Propose and implement recruitment initiatives that promote diversity in attracting qualified applicants. Participate in planning of employee and volunteer recognition events. Work one day per week in Brooklyn field office. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of one year of full-time human resources experience; experience recruiting in a social service non-profit organization highly preferred. Proven customer/client service sensibility and ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels. Capability to transition easily between working independently with high degree of self-initiative and contributing as part of a team. Demonstrated competence in verbal, written, organizational and prioritization skills. Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, email and scheduling software. Knowledge of iVantage and/or Crystal Reports a tremendous plus. Able to use public transportation throughout New York City for travel to Good Shepherd locations, recruitment events, etc.
