POSITION:



Senior Staff Accountant

Planned Giving & Endowments Department

 

DESCRIPTION:



Reporting to the Planned Giving & Endowments Department’s financial operations manager, the senior staff accountant is responsible for the analysis and accounting of planned gifts and endowments as well as all Supporting Foundation and Community Trust for Disabled Adults accounts of UJA-Federation of New York.

 

Major Responsibilities and Tasks:



1.  Manage all financial record-keeping, tax-form preparation, accounting, and reconciliation for all Supporting Foundations of UJA-Federation, including, but not limited to:

 Track, code, and record all incoming contributions, intercompany revenue, and grants to agenciesPrepare all tax forms for federal and state filings (including IRS form 990 and CHAR-500)Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries reflecting financial activity and grantmaking of each Supporting FoundationReconcile and record all bank statements, cash-availability statements, and checks



2.  Handle all general accounting and reconciliation as well as tax-form preparation for split-interest gifts (charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts).

 

3.  Prepare journal entries for all donations as well as financial transactions at outside institutions.

 

4.  Reconcile all accounts for investments held at outside institutions and not included in UJA-Federation’s Pooled Investment Account.

 

5.  Prepare departmental reports in a timely manner, including:

 Monthly tracking reportMonthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash-flow reportsCash analysis of Supporting FoundationsGrants analysis of Supporting FoundationsInvestment roll-forward schedule 

6.  Provide additional support where appropriate, including ad hoc reporting and analysis.

 

Qualifications and Experience:



1.  Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; advanced degree preferred

 

2.  Certified Public Accountant license preferred

 

3.  Knowledge of FASB rules for accounting of not-for-profit organizations as well as technical elements of split-interest charitable gifts preferred

 

4.  Computer literacy and expertise, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Access, in addition to the ability to learn existing PG&E Department databases.

 

5.  Minimum five years’ experience handling public/private accounting, preferably in a large corporate, government, or not-for-profit setting.

 

6.  Ability to work independently, but must be a team player.

 

7.  Ability to handle multiple assignments and priorities is essential, as are excellent communication skills and flexibility with regard to taking on new assignments and learning new skills.

 

8.  Ideally, the PG&E senior staff accountant will have a strong individual drive, be a self-motivator, and have a strong sense of commitment to UJA-Federation’s mission.
