Trafficking Outreach & Training Worker
Position Summary:
Trafficking Outreach & Training Worker (TOTW) will be responsible for implementing and supporting an outreach program to raise awareness about human trafficking and creating active faith based outreach teams to identify victims and raise awareness in their communities.
Essential Functions:
1. Solicitation of local congregations (all faiths) in Los Angeles County interested in human trafficking outreach.
2. Coordinate with the local congregation to create at least one dedicated advocacy team.
3. Train congregation’s advocacy team utilizing the latest research concerning human trafficking and the identification of victims.
4. Help advocacy teams develop a local strategy that identifies specific locations and methods of outreach.
5. Provide outreach teams with materials and institutional support to facilitate outreach implementation.
6. Find victims and refer them to care.
7. Coordinate and collect goals and outcomes information.
8. Attend The Salvation Army’s Anti-trafficking “Train the Trainer” course and Motivational Interviewing training conducted by Michael A. Smith, PhD, the Hands That Heal, International Curriculum to Train Caregivers of Trafficking Survivors and a state-of-the-art national training on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children or CSEC within 15 days of award.
9. Identify three high-potential trafficking areas in the Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles area.
10. Identify four key faith-based communities from which to solicit volunteer outreach workers/advocates.
11. Recruit and train outreach teams. Monitor and supervise advocacy teams.
12. Conduct a minimum of eight (8) hours of anti-trafficking training with key faith based community personnel and/or service providers each month.
13. Conduct at least 15 hours of public awareness activities (e.g. distributing HHS Resources and Restore flyers, information on youth sex trafficking, talking to pastors) each month.
14. Collaborate with NightLight to continue to recruit, train, and implement at least one outreach team.
15. Contact a total number of 15 churches, 20 agencies, and 75 individuals in awareness activities.
16. Conduct four trainings specifically on CSEC and Human Trafficking for churches and service providers in the Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles areas.
17. Participate in the research design and the basic data collection of at least three factors pertaining to the impact of CSEC on youth and the Hollywood community in general.
18. Misc duties as assigned by supervisor.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
Must be able to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Must be able to lift up to
25 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications:
1 year working experience in social services, community education and advocacyBachelors Degree in social sciencesInterest in human rights and social justiceEnglish language proficiency, second language preferred.Employ a positive and professional demeanor when relating to clients, staff agency representative, community members and others.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Ability to carry out assignments independently and good time management skills.Good communication skills both oral and written in English and Spanish.Ability to give presentations to large and small groups of people. Knowledge of human trafficking trends & researchKnowledge of Los Angeles faith based communityPossess efficient and effective organization and management skillsAbility to handle confidential information.
