Visitor Site Manager
The Center for Empowered Living and Learning is seeking an experienced manager to ensure the highest quality customer service for Museum visitors and members, and to oversee a staff of Visitor Services Assistants. This individual will manage the day to day operations within the facility, oversee group visits, maintain the daily payroll and cash out procedures, enforce operational standards and administer disciplinary structure as needed and respond to concerns or issues that may arise in the Visitor Services areas of the Museum. The Director of Visitor Services reports to the Executive Director and plays a key role in the senior management team. S/he supervises both full and part-time employees, vendors and consultants. Additional responsibilities include primary management of the Volunteer Program and the reception desk.
Examples of Duties: Functional area: Management Plan, write, and implement policies and procedures for The CELL including the emergency preparedness plan, visitor rules, emergency response, opening and closing policy Review policies and procedures written by other sections for compliance with security and safety concerns.
Project and submit budget requests for security, safety and building management system repairs and maintenance; staff training and development and visitor services. Monitor expenditures to ensure the program operations are within the approved budget.
Monitor and coordinate workflow between different programs, museum areas, or museums. Adjust the allocation of resources (staff, equipment, money, etc.) to meet workload requirements and performance standards. Maintain awareness of issues and resources in museum programs managed by others and work with others to ensure resources are where needed, when needed.
Functional area: Visitor Information and Service Develop and provide interpretive training for staff and volunteer docents. Evaluate information being presented in tours and presentations and recommend methods or tactics to improve visitors¹ experience.
Conduct guided tours of museum exhibits for schools, special groups, VIP's, and so on. Give slide and movie presentations or educational programs. Serve as an interpretive resource to the organization, the public, and other agencies.
Requirements:
The requirements for the position include demonstrated supervisory experience in the hospitality industry or in a museum setting, exceptional customer service and organizational skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of staff and visitors. The successful candidate will be an experienced and energetic non profit manager with a strong operations background with three years experience with a minimum of five years in a supervisory role, preferably in a museum or corporate setting. This person works with museum and division management to develop short- and long-term goals, coordinate priorities and operations, and justify and explain resource requirements. The incumbent works with professional organizations and other museum representatives to maintain awareness of developments in technologies and practices in interpretation and education for visitors.
The work requires applying knowledge of museum operations to develop and implement policies and procedures that ensure effective security and safety of museum visitors. The work requires applying knowledge of education methods and visitor needs and desires to develop and coordinate effective services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Some knowledge of the principles and techniques of program management including planning, contract administration, organization, staffing, supervision, training, budgeting and reporting.
Ability to plan, direct and evaluate a program; to organize and coordinate the program with other activities or program areas in the agency; to establish program and service guidelines, policies, procedures and relate these to objectives.
Ability to supervise and motivate staff and volunteers.
Ability to maintain a favorable working relationship with a wide variety of professionals and volunteers.
Ability to implement and enforce safety and security rules, policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain operating records and prepare reports; observe and record events accurately.
Ability to recognize an emergency or hazardous condition, to react quickly in a mature, controlled manner, taking appropriate action; investigate problems or situations, establish and evaluate relevant facts/issues and propose viable solutions and courses of action.
Ability to provide guided tours of the museum's exhibit and answer visitor questions.
Bachelors Degree is required. Must be available Tuesday through Sunday with evening hours on Fridays as well as some holidays.
