Web Content Editor

Non-Profit Organization hiring a Web Content Editor!!

1.Editor: The Web content editor should have the ability to revise all Web content to make it more readable and easily “digestible” for readers. The content editor will maintain styles consistent with the company’s style guide and recommend additions to the guide. This Web content editor will work closely with the various staff writers and CMS editors to educate them on appropriate writing techniques for online content.

2.Strategist: The Web content editor will develop strategies for using the Web site to better communicate the company’s messages and will work closely with programmers and/or designers to develop an intuitive, user-friendly site structure.

3.Gatekeeper: The Web content editor will review and approve content before it is posted on the Web site. He or she will also ensure content is placed in the correct areas of the site.

4.Cross-marketer: The Web content editor will determine which content items should be cross-referenced.

5.Librarian: The Web content editor should be able to organize Web content in a meaningful, intuitive manner, improving the structure of the site and making it easier for visitors to quickly locate the content they seek.

6.Auditor: The Web content editor should, on a regular basis, review aging content and determine whether it is still viable and whether or not it should remain on the site.

7.Backup content writer: The Web editor will, on an as-needed basis, write content for the Web based on work requests submitted by various departments.

8.Web site customer service: Field and track all Web-related comments and complaints to identify site issues.

Required Skills and Experience:
•Excellent writing and editing skills.
•4+ years of Web-specific writing and editing experience.
•Experience updating Web sites using content management system software.
•Experience organizing or restructuring complex Web sites.
•Working knowledge of basic HTML.
•Thorough knowledge of AP style a MUST!
•Four-year degree in journalism, marketing, communications or related field.
•Ability to work with many personalities.
•Ability to easily identify and leverage cross-promotion opportunities.
•Web-design experience is a plus.
