Web Associate

ALLEY CAT ALLIES

 

Alley Cat Allies is the leading national stray and feral cat advocate dedicated to ending the killing of cats and leading the movement for their humane care. Alley Cat Allies does this through: advocating for public policy change; building and leading a national movement to stop the killing; expanding the practice of Trap-Neuter-Return and the humane ethic of care; and educating society about feral cats. Founded in 1990, ACA is based in Bethesda, Maryland and is supported by 150,000 donors and activists worldwide.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Web Associate will be responsible for overall maintenance and ongoing enhancement of Alley Cat Allies’ website, as well as sending e-mail communications such as Feral Power! action emails. This position will assure data integrity by managing the flow of information from Net Community into Raiser’s Edge. 

 

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Web Management Duties

·         Complete all updates to alleycat.org

 

·         Draft web content and post written content. 

 

·         On a daily basis, follow the latest news, research, events, recruitment, department calendar, and activities that may serve as content for the website and work with appropriate staff to get content or information.

 

·         Ensure that all web site content is uploaded to the site.

 

·         Evaluate all content for its value in search engine optimization according to key word frequency, key word density, formatting, etc.

 

·         Be accessible after-hours for urgent updates and issues that may arise.

 

·         Ensure overall integrity of web site through constant review of content and by troubleshooting errors.

 

·         Research information / best practices that enhance the value of the web site. Work to keep the site up to date with branding standards and available technologies.

 

·         Interface with web vendors to troubleshoot or obtain information as needed.

 

·         In conjunction with staff content providers, manage ongoing, strategic, cohesive email campaigns to educate, solicit and mobilize supporters including news alerts, actions alerts, and event invitations

 

·         Assist ACA departments to identify and create timely and topical action items, news updates, and action requests that complement ongoing online communications strategies.

 

 

Database Duties:

·         Approve data to be added when users sign up, take action or edit their profiles. 

 

·         Manage bad e-mail addresses.

 

·         Pull database reports.

 

·         Generate accurate reports – monthly, quarterly and annually – with activist membership in quantity and changes, and number of action emails generated for each campaign.

 

 

Outreach and Recruitment Duties:

·         Manage Alley Cat Allies’ presence on social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace.

 

·         Manage the multiple listservs. Report monthly, quarterly and annually on the number of members, and usage.  

 

 

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly for varied audiences.

 

·         Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.

 

·         Familiarity with new media – i.e. blogs, podcasts, social networks.

 

·         Strong computer skills.

 

·         Understanding of web usability and browser compatibility

 

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

·         Bachelors Degree is required.

 

·         Experience with online communications.

 

·         Knowledge of HTML (hand-coding experience preferred), Flash, CSS, Javascript, and Photoshop.

 

·         Experience with CMS required; Experience with Blackbaud’s NetCommunity a plus.

 

·         Experience with Raiser’s Edge. Background in report design to create reports using Crystal Reports a plus.

 

 

Status: Regular, full-time, and on-site.
