Academy Manager
Duties and Responsibilities: The Academy Manager (the Manager) is responsible for developing, maintaining, and administering the Academy, a compilation of training and development programs applicable to employees at all locations. In addition, the Manager serves as one of several instructors within the academy and as needed, provides additional training resources to plants and the Corporate office. The Manager also works in a collaborative, peer relationship with the Manager of Technical Training. Listed below are specific duties and responsibilities:
In a collaborative and team oriented environment, design and develop (and assist others to design and develop) classes for the Academy. Classes may be related to policy, procedure, process, leadership, job skills and/or general information. Development includes all materials, exercises, student evaluation, follow-up and reinforcement tactics.With the assistance of plant and corporate management, schedule classes including dates, times, and locations and determine who will attend. Work with the Corporate Travel Administrator on making arrangements for travel, classroom facilities, meals, etc. Schedule trainers.Prepare, or oversee the preparation of all class materials including student and facilitator training guides, handouts, visual aids, prizes, certificates, etc. and ensure that materials arrive at the training location in time for class set-up. Ensure that computers, projectors, screens and other training tools are set up and in good working order.Serve as an instructor as needed.Maintain training records.Solicit feedback from students and management as to class effectiveness. Analyze class evaluations and make recommendations for curriculum and material changes.Design and develop computer based training and e-learning applications in order to deliver appropriate training one-at-a-time and on a “just-in-time” basis.Serve as a training consultant and resource to facilities for plant specific training needs.As requested, serve on HR department, cross-plant, and multi-discipline process improvement teams.AT ALL TIMES, MODEL ETHICS AND VALUES.
Qualifications: The following qualifications are required and/or desired.
A four-year college degree and a minimum of five years experience developing and delivering training in a business environment, or the equivalent in training and experience. Experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.Must have experience designing and developing computer based training and e-learning applications. Must have knowledge of and experience using training development software. Must have extensive experience working with subject matter experts in order to translate their knowledge and experience into the appropriate training medium. Must have extensive knowledge and experience with power point and other presentation aids including computer animation, sound, and video applications.Must be highly collaborative and work well in a participative, team oriented environment.Superior communication skills including written and oral skills.Knowledge of statistical based management practices with the ability to compile, analyze, and present data in a format that facilitates information sharing and decision making.Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.Must be highly ethical, have strong integrity, and use value based decision-making.Must function effectively, with a cooperative, friendly, and professional manner at all levels of the organization. Effective PC skills in common software applications such as Excel, Work and PowerPoint. Must be able to use the Company HRIS and other data base programs.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to move throughout the manufacturing plants and regularly travel between the plants and the Corporate office. Must be able to use computers and other office equipment. Must be able to speak and hear to deliver training and receive feedback. Must be able to conduct training for periods of up to eight hours a day. Must be able to work in a fast paced, high stress environment while maintaining a calm, courteous, and professional manner. Must be able to communicate, lead, and participate in team and group meetings.
Special Requirements: Frequent travel of up to 50% of the time. Overtime which may be extensive at times. May occasionally have to travel over a week-end. Competitive
