Job Description:Job Title: Associate ActuarySummary: Takes a lead role on corporate actuarial projects in conjunction with core discipline. Completes research and employs new techniques depending on project requirements. Presents results and recommended actions consistent with the business strategy of the organization. Provides guidance to lower level actuaries and pricing analysts in the fulfillment of their duties. May continue to pursue a higher actuarial professional designation.Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Calculate rate indications and/or reserve estimates for new or existing products and be able to support your rate/reserve recommendations to outside agencies/customers.- Experience should include multiple lines of business. Prepare experience exhibits in conjunction with a rate review or to support an independent analysis. - Evaluate alternative data presentations in formulating most appropriate delivery to audience. Lead meetings with customer(s) to discuss analysis results and develop rate/reserve recommendations.Perform projects/analysis that require knowledge of advanced actuarial concepts/methods within the core discipline.- For example: Large Deductible Pricing, Experience Rating, ROE AnalysisProvide actuarial support on insurance department inquiries.- Includes being capable of testifying at a rate hearing if necessary. Provide lead support on external projects such as Planning or Reserve Forecasting. Utilize actuarial background to provide support on projects outside the core discipline.- For example, cost benefit analyses or financial modeling.Initiate process improvements to streamline existing tasks or improve the actuarial product.Analyze, develop or recommend ratemaking methods, rating plans or reserve methods and reasonability tests.Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Typical Experience - Bachelors Degree or higher in a relevant technical field.- Eight or more years of experience in core discipline.- ACAS Designation or higher. Required Knowledge - Possesses a detailed understanding of the actuarial concepts/methods used in the core discipline and the ability to research and employ new techniques depending on project requirements. - Skilled in the use of PC spreadsheet applications including the ability to develop and automate processes within the core discipline. - Understand the commonly employed techniques used to model various assumptions pertinent to their core discipline such as trend or tail factors.- Exposure to broad array of actuarial concepts/methods with ability to adapt appropriate technique(s) to project assignments.- Ability to multitask and meet all deadlines with quality product.- Able to present and explain results in a clear and concise manner.Responsibilities- Provide lead role on corporate actuarial projects in conjunction with line of business pricing/reserving responsibilities.- Provide guidance to lower level actuaries in the fulfillment of their duties.Minimum Education Required: BachelorYears of Experience Required: 3-5 YearsExpected Travel Time: None
