About.com is seeking a smart self-starter with excellent editorial judgment and written communication skills to fill the role of part time Training Editor at our headquarters in New York City. Experience in an online publishing environment is required. Experience working with freelance writers or independent contractors is a strong plus. This is a part-time freelance position with a maximum work time of 30 hours a week. The primary responsibility of the Associate Editor will be to recruit, train, and hire new Guides (freelance writers) to cover About.com?s growing taxonomy of 650+ topic areas. Specific Responsibilities: ? Review online applications for entry into About.com?s online Guide training program ? Provide trainees with detailed, editorial reviews of their progress ? Provide technical support and guidance for trainees ? Work with other editorial staff to determine which trainees should be allowed to graduate from the training program and become About.com Guides. Qualifications: ? Bachelors degree ? 1-2 years experience working for an online publisher in an editorial role ? Strong editorial judgment skills ? Strong communication skills via email and phone ? Knowledge of HTML and online publishing tools ? Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment and familiarize yourself with new topics quickly ? Well versed in current Web trends and concepts. ? Experience working with freelance writers or independent contractors a strong plus
