Auto Body Repair - Paint Prepper
Job Description Paint preppers will prepare all assigned vehicles for the refinish and reassembly processes.
Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GEDExperience: Prior paint prep desired by not mandatoryCompetencies/Skills: Knowledge of manufacturer's repair processes. Knowledge of Manheim Auto Body Repair's technical repair processes. Ability to use appropriate vendor materials efficiently and cost effectively. Must maintain a valid state driver's license in order to drive any customer or company vehicle.Accomplishments(Degrees, Certifications, Languages): I-CAR refinishing courses; Auto Body Vo-tech. Certificate preferred; Demonstrated commitment to continued educationPhysical Demands: Periodic lifting and carrying of objects weighing over 50 pounds. Extended periods of kneeling, bending, or stooping to perform repairs. May be exposed to repetitive tasks involving hand and arm motion.Work Environment: May be required to inspect vehicles outdoors in inclement weather. May be exposed to high levels of dust and noise in the repair center. Protective equipment is provided. All team members are expected to comply with all safety programs and wear protective equipment provided. May be required to attend training outside the repair center.
Responsibilities Due to differences in sales volume and staff size, the responsibilities of this position may vary between Manheim Auto Body Repair locations. Team Members may be asked to perform specified responsibilities from more than one job description. Management will try diligently to communicate the expected responsibilities to each team member upon hiring or as changes occur. * Review each repair order (RO), work order, and CSS's notes to understand repairs needed prior to beginning work on the vehicle. All repairs must be completed according to the documentation on the repair order or a supplement.* Review the daily paint list with the Paint Technician.* Perform all paint preparation and refinish procedures according to factory specifications and Manheim policy.* Prepare vehicle or parts for refinishing according to the Manheim Auto Body Repair Technical Repair Process Manual.* Remove and safely store all necessary moldings, emblems, and door handles prior to priming or refinishing.* Prime, edge or jam replacement parts for the Body Technicians, as assigned on the daily paint list. Notify Body Technicians when parts are ready for repair.* Sand and buff paint finishes, as needed.* Maintain production flow by moving vehicles through the paint department and paint booth for the Paint Technician.* Ensure all formulations, preparations, top coating and curing meet OEM recommended standards for proper application sequence, timing and materials usage.* Follow company procedures in application of under-coating, corrosion protection, seam sealer, weld-through primer and lubricants.* Document accurate clock time worked by using the time clock. * Document and flag labor time on each work order as it is completed.* Review work order and initial all completed refinish items. * Perform and sign-off on quality check.* Maintain a copy of the work order in the vehicle at all times.* Comply with all Manheim Auto Body safety standards and programs.* Follow vendor procedures in maintaining all tools and equipment, including maintenance of paint booth and booth filters.* Follow proper hazardous waste and OSHA guidelines in mixing, labeling and applying paint and related materials.* Follow proper hazardous waste and OSHA guidelines in recycling and disposing of paint and related materials.* Report any equipment problems or failures to management immediately.* Maintain a clean and organized workspace.* Maintain a labor efficiency rate of 125% to 175% (Labor hours sold/clock hours).* Maintain a 100% quality rate (0% come-backs).* Work with team members to achieve target delivery rates.
