Position Description:

The Strategic Sourcing Department, located in Pleasanton, California has an opening for a Buyer IV.Qualifications: 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience preferred.3-5 years procurement experience in negotiating contracts and managing strategic supplier alliances.General procurement systems knowledge.Import/global sourcing experience a plus.Working knowledge of contract law, government policies and regulations for the food and drug industry.3-5 years of diverse experience and knowledge in various aspects of supply chain preferred.Strong analytical skills.Possess initiative and passion to drive world class procurement initiatives.Experience in multi-task work environment.Strategy and data management experience preferred.Knowledge of web based, ERP and e-commerce applications.Strong computer knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong emphasis in Microsoft Excel. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Manage key sourcing projects involving all parts of the business.Gather data and analyze complex supplier proposals and make award recommendations to key stakeholders.Develop and manage supplier relationships with primary responsibility for bringing resolution to day to day issues related to pricing, product availability and ongoing projects.Identify and validate optimal sources of supply for new items and develop, maintain and manage the business relationship.Responsible for negotiating and managing contracts, deals and new items for key commodities.Identify and execute cost saving and reduction initiatives.Participate in cross-functional teams in support of achieving key stakeholder initiatives.Manage key sourcing projects involving all parts of the business.Administer systems to ensure accuracy of information and timeliness of changes.Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the business.Supervise and mentor entry level buyers and assistants.Travel required 10%.Respond to: Interested employees are encouraged to submit a resume by visiting www.safeway.com/careers
