Our Medical Readiness and Response Group specializes in medical and public health preparedness for military and government clients. Incumbent will join a team of professionals who provide world-wide clients with technical industrial hygiene, safety, occupational health and emergency preparedness services specializing in hazard identification, risk assessment and mitigation, program management, training and consultation. The Senior Industrial Hygienist is a full time position in Aberdeen, MD. Travel to various client locations around the world will be required on an as-needed basis, expected to be approximately 25% of the time. Position Summary The purpose of this position is to provide clients, primarily DoD and federal agencies, with effective medical, public health and senior leader preparedness for a wide variety of topics. These topics include, but are not limited to, occupational health hazards, toxic industrial chemicals, emerging diseases and other hazards impacting mission requirements. This industrial hygienist will author technical reports and perform industrial hygiene evaluations of workplaces and operations to ensure the overall health and safety of employees and compliance with applicable regulations. These evaluations involve anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and recommending controls for a wide variety of unique occupational health hazards. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience. Salary range for this position is $7,500 to $7,980 per month. A full benefits package will be provided. Relocation support is not available. Specific Position Responsibilities Project Management: Plan and manage projects from inception to completion utilizing good business practices and Battelle guidelines and resources to provide quality products within task scope, resources and timelines. - Lead a team of professionals who provide clients with industrial hygiene, safety, and risk assessment services specializing in hazards associated with military operations as well as chemical and biological warfare agents and radioactive materials. - Provide technical and management oversight for projects up to $3M in size. This management includes planning and conducting projects to address specific problems, determining the proper approach and developing and/or modifying the necessary plans. - Provide innovative technical advice to clients in coordinating, planning, implementing, monitoring, and managing various industrial hygiene programs. Business Development: Develop and execute new business opportunities. Develop marketing presentations focused on client needs and Battelle capabilities; establish strategic relationships with key client managers and coordinate activities with appropriate Battelle business development staff. Consultation and Coordination: Assist other Battelle elements in providing quality products by developing an understanding of the greater Battelle capability, directing tasks for execution within Battelle to best support the client, and participating in matrixed staff support for project execution. Within established organizational framework, recruit, train, mentor and guide staff to execute projects from business development successes. - Develop conceptual scopes of work, create formal proposals, develop program schedules and cost estimates, and coordinate among Battelle's business sectors for appropriate staff support. - Manage projects to cost and schedule, market capability to prospective new clients, and ensure team members meet established goals and objectives. - Serve as industrial hygiene and safety consultant for other elements of the organization providing routine and emergency response planning and infrastructure protection services to clients. - Management and leadership of traditional industrial hygiene and safety tasks will be required such as performing surveys, equipment and process hazard analyses and risk assessments, formulating corrective actions, and developing and providing training. Author, edit, and review technical reports. - Assist clients in developing and coordinating strategic planning guidance including goals and objectives by senior leaders and managers. Assist in developing tools, policies, processes, and guidance for integrating risk management into operational processes. Facilitation and Instruction: Develop, instruct and facilitate technical seminars, workshops and discussion groups; tabletop exercises. Conduct technical skills training in the areas of response planning for installation and medical facilities. Risk Assessment: Provide technical and analytical support in addressing planning issues involving CBRNE defense within consequence management, force health protection, and homeland security areas. Facilitate the development of force health protection and community response guidelines and training. Required Qualifications Masters degree in Public Health (MPH) or Health Sciences (MHS) from an accredited university with a focus in industrial hygiene or occupational health and safety. Current certification with the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) as an Industrial Hygienist (CIH). In-depth experience in health and safety hazard assessment in an occupational environment. At least 10 years of active duty US military experience as a medical service corps officer working in operational preventive medicine or 10 years of experience as a DoD civilian working in operational preventive medicine. Experience supervising professional and/or technical staff and employees. Experience in occupational health or industrial hygiene program management. Able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance as a condition of employment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects while meeting technical requirements, budgets, and deadlines. Physically capable of performing the essential job functions of an industrial hygienist at a work site while wearing personal protective equipment, to include respiratory protection. It is envisioned that wearing PPE will be an infrequent but necessary requirement of the job. Preferred Qualifications At least 20 years of relevant experience at increasing levels of responsibility, culminating with at least 3 years of senior leadership experience at a military headquarters (or equivalent) level developing industrial hygiene policy. Certified Safety Professional credential. Demonstrated business development and program management skills. Experience with MS Project and Earned Value Management would be favorable. Ability to develop new business opportunities in the occupational health and/or hazard protection area. Ability to obtain and maintain Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance.
