Communications Officer 1 - Web Specialist

At the UCHC, this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in providing promotional, informational and educational services.

 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Six (6) years professional experience in communications, public information or public relations.  College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's Degree. A Master's degree in Communications may be substituted for one (1) additional year of experience.

 

SPECIAL:  Previous web management experience and demonstrated mastery of HTML.  Experience with CSS, Flash and graphic design software such as Photoshop.

 

PREFERRED:  Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Communications, Business Administration or a related field.  Previous experience in a higher education or health care industry setting.  Experience in search engine optimization, XML, XSLT, JavaScript and content management systems.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

Knowledge of communication methods and procedures; knowledge of public relations principles and practices; knowledge of relevant State and Federal laws, statutes and regulations; oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills; Technical knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties and a commitment to continually gain new knowledge and skills in response to rapidly evolving technologies.  The Web Communications Officer 1 must be able to perform multiple tasks concurrently in a fast paced environment, have a strong understanding of computer graphic design and organizational communications, possess exceptional communication, interpersonal and analytical skills, be adept at working successfully in collaborative and team settings, and a demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Assist with the day-to-day operation of the University of Connecticut Health Center's web site and help plan for its growth and evolution.  The Web Communications Officer 1 works with the Web Communications Officer 2 and others to:

1.  identify opportunities to enhance the UCHC web site and promote the use of the web to support the institutions mission,

2.  develop, update and maintain the content and design of Health Center's institutional web pages and the overall architecture of the web site; 3.  assist and instruct UCHC departments and other content owners in the authoring, design and placement of departmental web content; 4.  assure compliance with all appropriate web policies; 5. define display standards, encourage their use and maintain a library of standard styles, themes and images; 6.  convert submitted materials to web documents; 7.  develop and promote web related resources within the Health Center including hardware, software and expertise; 8. research new web features and tools and, as appropriate, make recommendations for their use; and 9.  serve as a liaison to the Information Technology Department on web related matters.

 

SCHEDULE:  40 hours weekly, generally Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Some flexibility necessary to accommodate departmental needs.

 

MINIMUM FULL TIME EQUIVALENT SALARY:  $53,604
