District Market Development Manager
JOB DESCRIPTION:UPS Supply Chain Solutions (UPS SCS) is seeking International Manager (IM) to impact the organization by directing and developing sales and service strategies to maintain and expand UPS SCS? international business. A primary responsibility is to identify new opportunities and retain existing major accounts by focusing on developing lane segments, specific markets, products, routes, or regions that target global business needs and lead to international account development. As part of this responsibility, the IM works to expand opportunities in accounts that may have global international business for UPS SCS in conjunction with Forwarding, Distribution, ITS, Ocean, Air, Trade Direct, Express Critical, and other UPS SCS components. The IM must also maintain relationships with international customers and act as a liaison and ambassador for the company. To be successful, the IM must possess expert knowledge in at least one mode of transportation and proficient knowledge in all other modes offered by UPS SCS. The IM could travel 50% - 80% throughout their multi-state geographic area. One or two International trips may also be required per year. An International Manager may be expected to: Continually expanding account share penetration by developing and nurturing long-term partnerships with appropriate client decision makers, translating UPS SCS? global capabilities to customer value Work directly with Ocean, Brokerage and Logistics managers to develop new business Work closely with Global Accounts on lane development for key accounts/bid development Coordinate with Lead Area Sales Managers and Regional Sales Lead Managers on target accounts specific to new International Products & Services, focusing particularly on Ocean and Trade Direct services Work specific target accounts and/or targeted growth area (by state, division, country, import, export, etc) Develop relationships with the International Chamber of Commerce, etcetera for prospecting, customer development, and visibility Establish routings and rates by working with commercial carriers and gateway management, establishing SOPs based on routings and rates, ensuring rollouts and SOP?s are implemented Establish international costing and pricing procedures to best support revenue growth Conduct internal and external seminars to continually train customers and employee on the range of international services available Facilitate execution of the business plan for a specific geographic territory and communicate strategic initiatives Educate employees in other functions in SCS as well in other business units regarding SCS products and services Educate sales team members regarding compliance, internal sales tools and practices Coordinate with operations, implementations for successful launch of new business As a member of the management team, the IM must provide guidance and training for staff, set priorities, manage employee performance, manage financial resources, interview and hire employees, develop employees, and coordinate special projects as requested. Minimum Requirements Bachelor?s degree required although equivalent experience relevant to the job may be considered Proficiency in English required. Proficiency in multiple languages is strongly preferred Generally four to six years experience in business development, distribution, or forwarding operations including and two years of sales management experience preferred Excellent presentation and communications skills are required General knowledge of supply chain is required Expertise in service areas (e.g. SPL, international freight, distribution, etc.) provided by UPS SCS Strong sales skills are required Significant international business acumen is required ? work experience in the international business arena resulting in a strong understanding of international trade and trade flows. This should include knowledge of customs brokerage, trade lane, ocean and air freight movements Demonstrated prior success in a sales role (meeting a quota), procurement, or supply chain operations, is important Demonstrated record of successful new client acquisition, negotiation, and customer support leading to high levels of customer satisfaction Ability to follow a structured sales process is required Ability to set goals and hold a sales team accountable for meeting goals is requiredBASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Significant international business acumen is required Prior success in a sales role is important Supply Chain experience, including expertise in most service areas (e.g. SPL, international freight, distribution, etc.) provided by UPS SCS is required. Generally four to six years experience in business development, inside sales, or customer service including. Bachelor?s degree required although equivalent experience relevant to the job may be considered.
