Description:
Intellectual Ventures is a privately help invention investment company based in Bellevue, WA. Founded in 2000, IV’s business model centers on creating, acquiring and licensing intellectual property in a variety of areas.
Responsibilities:
Fulfills requests for articles, subscriptions, and books required by technical staff throughout IV, using a combination of research assistants, purchases, and visits to nearby academic libraries. Maintains the SharePoint site built for accepting and tracking such requests. Consistently achieves turnaround times of 48 hours or less.Maintains reference databases for a variety of research projects, using EndNote software, and supports publication projects by inserting references into documents and ensuring that footnotes, bibliographies, etc. are formatted appropriately for the target publication.Builds and administers SharePoint sites, including permissions management, development of automated workflows, and integration of files and discussions received via email, to support efficient editorial and communications operations.Drafts, proofreads, sends, and files correspondence with journals, publishers, printers, freelancers, translators, and other vendors.Processes expense reports, employee time sheets, and invoices from freelance contractors and information services.Schedules meetings and travel arrangements, and handles similar logistical tasks for the Executive Editor.Under the supervision of the Executive Editor and/or Assistant Editor, supports ISF invention sessions and presentations made by or to IV Managing Directors by collecting and organizing articles, images, statistics, and other information; and by creating, proofreading, and formatting slides, charts, handouts and other collateral.Under the supervision of the Assistant Editor, proofreads and formats manuscripts, spreadsheets, illustrations, and charts to conform with IV style guidelines and/or style and format required by the target publication.Follows the direction of research project managers to collect, enter, classify, and review data being assembled for ongoing research efforts, e.g. in the patent litigation project.
Qualifications:
· Four-year undergraduate degree required
· B.S. or B.A. in scientific or engineering discipline highly desired
· Proficiency formatting PowerPoint presentations using master slides (2 years experience required)
· SharePoint site creation and administration (2yrs experience preferred)
· Proficiency with formatting complex documents and managing multi-reviewer revisions in Microsoft Word (5 years experience required)
· Proficiency creating and formatting publication-quality pivot-tables, reports, and charts in Microsoft Excel including scatterplots and other technical chart types (2 years experience required)
· Prior experience with Excel workbooks containing embedded SQL database queries is preferred
· Prior experience creating footnotes, endnotes, and/or bibliographies required; prior experience with EndNote preferred
