Engineer II-Electrical Engineer

The Deep Submergence Laboratory is seeking an Engineer II - Electrical Engineer to become an integral part of the team responsible for the operation, design and maintenance of undersea robotic systems, including the Jason ROV. Sea duties include operational and technical support of systems at sea world-wide. Yearly travel ranges 3-5 months, depending on scheduling, with individual trip lengths of 3-6 weeks.
Shore side responsibilities include remote support of vehicle operations, development and tracking of documentation, design and upgrade of vehicle systems, and development of other oceanographic instrumentation. The candidate must have the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

The successful candidate will eventually take lead responsibility of supporting the Jason ROV electrical systems. Experience with analog and digital circuit design required. Experience with RS-232/485 serial protocols required. Extensive troubleshooting experience required.

Experience with general oceanographic instrumentation and acoustic navigation desired. Experience with microcontroller and other programming languages desired. Experience with power electronics, Ethernet protocol, and fiber optic data transmission desired.

Education:
BS in Electrical Engineering desired. At least three years of experience with ROVs and submersible systems required. A proven history of relevant experience and accomplishment can substitute for the required academic background. A demonstrated ability to adapt to a wide variety of electrical systems both at sea and in the laboratory is required.
