We currently have an opening for an Engineer/Senior Engineer in our Materials and Processing Engineering department based at Turbotec in Tijuana, Mexico.This positions main responsibility is to provide materials support to the Companys manufacturing facilitys (Turbotec) in Tijuana, Mexico, critical processes that include: thermal spraying, metallography, heat treating, sheet metal fabrication, brazing, and welding. Responsibilities include developing robust quality/first article requirements and the corresponding supporting documents to ensure delivery of consistent and high quality products. Responsibilities also include developing and providing the necessary training to Turbotecs engineers and operators in the corresponding material and process functions. The position will act as a liaison between Turbotec and Solar Turbines other Engineering disciplines, and will leverage the expertise from other M&P engineers to address the wide range of materials challenges. It is expected that this position will spend 3 to 4 days/week working in Turbotecs facility.This position requires a dynamic individual with the ability to work effectively in a Team environment, and has the ability to proactively identifying process improvement potentials, and positively influences others to implement solutions. Must be able and willing to work at Turbotec 3-4 days a week and work the other 1-2 days a week at Solar Turbines downtown San Diego facility.
Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent field of study is required.
Minimum of 3 years experience with gas turbine materials (ferrous materials and all classes of superalloys) and high temperature processes (forging, casting, welding, and/or brazing) is required.
Minimum of 3 years experience with materials characterization techniques, including optical and electron microscopy and mechanical testing, is required.
Strong background in physical metallurgy of ferrous materials and all classes of superalloys is required.
Knowledge of thermal spray, failure analysis, coating systems, six sigma, and component repair processes is strongly desired.
Effective written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish required.
Ability to work with a cross-functional and multi-cultural technical staff is required.
