Job Description
Summary:
Our Underground Construction Company has an opening for an Estimator/ Project Manager. This position has complete accountability for projects assigned by the President. Develops and submits final estimates on various underground project types and sizes being pursued by the company. After bid is awarded this position becomes the Project Manager and manages the project through completion. This position will Estimate new projects while managing previously awarded projects.
Job Duties:Manage and Estimate multiple projects at the same time.Visit job sites and proposal sites as required to perform estimates and gather as-built cost data.Maintain blueprints, materials, and other pertinent information regarding the bidded project.Negotiates fees with local and state jurisdictions and business decisions for contracts with architectural, engineering, general contractors and subcontractors.Initiate contract documents, and all legal implications of design/build in applicable state requirements.Determine/define and write the scope of work, project parameters, budget, schedule and maintain such commitments. Prepare reports and analysis pertinent to construction estimating as requested by management.Management of day-to-day operations of assigned construction projectsOversees Project Engineers and other support staff to ensures timely performance of individual team members and develops professional competencies among staff.Attend site meetingsAssist Owners, Owners Representatives, Architects, Engineers, and other in establishing project objectivesCoordination and adjustment of progression of work to accommodate changes in scopeComplete monthly “Cost to Complete” reports and submit to the Controller by the 10th of each month.Provide complete and accurate take-offsProvide progress reports for each assigned project.Ensure Unit Rates and Material cost databases are kept current.Ensure Labor and Construction Equipment Rates are kept current.Train junior estimators as may from time to time be required.Perform computerized estimatingPrepare construction estimates for Job Change Notices.Ensure that Submittals, Subcontracts, Subcontract Change Orders and Contract Change Orders are being processed in a timely manner.Obtain forecasted project budgets and invoicing on assigned projects.Approve vendor invoices and confirm costs and codes.Approve and code employee timecards.Other duties as they arise and/or are assigned
Qualifications/Experience:Be proficient in estimating, scheduling, cost control, and change order negotiations for previous Underground Construction companiesExtremely detail-oriented and schedule drivenEffective communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, owners, subcontractors, colleagues, and other individuals in and outside the Company.Be dependable, honest, have a positive attitude and enjoy working with others.Encourage subordinatesTraveling requiredEffective analytical and problem-solving skillsA valid California Drivers LicenseBachelors degree or certification Construction Project ManagementTrained in Supervisor related AA/EEO requirementsMinimum 5 years construction estimating experience for an Underground Construction company.Proven track record in general engineering construction estimatingStrong IT skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel. Master Builder experience a plus.Current knowledge of SWPP requirements.Knowledge of applicable OSHA requirements.
