About.com, a top ten Web property that is part of The New York Times Company, is seeking an HR Director for the fast-paced, rapidly expanding unit. S/he will manage the day-to-day operation of a full service human resources function. S/he will manage employee relations and communications, benefits and compensation administration, and coordinate training and development. As About.com grows and changes, the HR Director will play a key role in creating the employee experience for our new and existing team members, and provide leadership to organization development and change initiatives. This position is based in About.coms New York City office and will also be the HR resource for our Sales offices in San Francisco and Chicago; This position will also serve as a liaison with the HR manager in our Beijing office About.coms team is currently 200 employees and growing. Responsibilities include: - Consult with About.com executives regarding the people implications of business issues, including organizational design, work force planning and strategic communications. - Provide direction and guidance in the development and implementation of all human resources policies, practices and programs, as well as regular and as-needed communication to managers and employees on HR practices and policy changes. - Ensure effective, legal and consistent human resources practices, using knowledge of employment law in combination with company policy, procedures and practice. - Counsel managers in performance management, management skills, and interpretation of human resources policies and practices. - Counsel employees on policies and supervisor-employee relationships, and when needed, investigate employee concerns and complaints, and determine appropriate action. - Manage the annual salary planning process in coordination with company-wide process, as well as ?off cycle? salary increases. - Manage the annual performance management cycle from goal setting to mid-year review to year-end performance appraisal process. - Develop, coordinate, and implement effective recruiting, training, employee recognition and wellness programs. - Contribute to individual development planning and the development of management skills through: a) individual coaching and consulting with managers and b) participating in the tailoring and delivery of NYT Company-wide training programs. - Ensure that human resources policies, practices and programs comply with local, state and federal employment laws. - Collaborate with HR colleagues across the Company on enterprise-wide HR initiatives. Requirements: - Ten years in human resources, with a depth of experience as an HR generalist for a business unit or a website. Well rounded experience in recruitment, compensation, employee relations, training and development, and employee communication is critical. - Experience in fast-paced, rapidly changing work environments and knowledge of trends in employee experience strongly preferred. - Demonstrated experience, education and interest in Organization Development and Design. - Experience in meeting facilitation. - In-depth knowledge of local and federal employment law. - Expertise advising and coaching managers and employees at all levels is essential. - Must demonstrate sensitivity to organizational culture and organizational change issues. - Human resources experience in both small and large company environments preferred. - Proven ability to translate large company policy and procedure into small company culture is essential. - Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as listening skills. - Ability to work with diverse groups. - Excellent relationship building, internal consulting and teamwork skills. - Ability to manage conflict. - Analytical, strategic and tactical. Ability to see the big picture while managing the details. - Personal integrity and the ability to handle sensitive and highly confidential issues in a tactful and democratic way. - Bachelor?s degree in human resources, business, behavioral or social sciences, communication, related fields or equivalent experience.
