General Summary

Responsible for leading and actively participating in the day-to-day operations of the company’s human resources functions, including support for all locations of the company to ensure compliance with laws, statutes, and regulations affecting human resource policies; the recruitment of personnel for key positions; the ongoing development of talent to fill needed positions, especially leadership roles that arise due to acquisitions and company growth; and long term development of strategies, policies, procedures and programs that support the company’s priorities.

 

This position will initially operate as an individual contributor with no direct staff support. The incumbent will be able to draw upon staff resources from headquarters. 

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

1.  HR management – Develop, manage and participate in the implementation of human resources programs and practices for the company, including those pertaining to:

·  Compensation

o Assist with the monitoring of the company wage and salary structure including bonuses and raises.

o Provide competitive market research and prepares pay studies to help establish pay practices that help to recruit and retain superior staff.

o Provide payroll processing backup support. Partner with accounting and payroll to maintain the payroll data base.

o Participates in one salary survey per year.

·  Employee benefits

o Provide day-to-day benefits administration services. Assist employees with any claim issues.

o Administer the 401(k) plan and completes yearly compliance reports.

o Monitor accidents/injuries and coordinates administration of workers’ compensation claims with workers’ compensation insurance provider.

o Recommend changes in benefits offered, especially new benefits aimed at employee satisfaction and retention.

·  Employee relations

o Assist with the development and communication of human resources policies, procedures, programs and laws.

o Recommend employee relations practices necessary to maintain a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation.

o Participate in conducting investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth.

o Advise managers and supervisors about the steps in the progressive discipline system of the company. Counsel managers on employment issues.

·  Safety

o Assist with the implementation of company safety and health programs.

o Track and post OSHA-required data and files reports.

 

2.  Recruitment support – Provide support and direction to executive management in the recruitment and staffing of key positions.

 

3.  Candidate development – Perform ongoing activities aimed at developing and utilizing talent pools to meet company staffing needs:

·  Internet recruiting

·  Industry positioning/candidate development

·  Networking and sourcing within the industry

·  Speaking at, and participating in, tradeshows and conferences

·  Alternative recruitment source development

 

4.  Training/development – Determine, recommend and implement appropriate training programs and resources to meet company training needs.

 

5.  Career planning – Identify and work with high potential talent in the company to define their development needs, prepare career development plans, and initiate appropriate training/development to prepare them for future assignments.

 

6.  HR systems development – Identify and develop systems, procedures and methods to support the human resources function in the company, including (1) identifying potential improvements in human resources practices, (2) monitoring the training/development needs of key personnel, and (3) assessing the recruitment/staffing and training/development practices of the company.

 

7. Vendor selection/negotiation – Identify, recommend and negotiate arrangements with firms offering assistance in the (1) recruitment, selection and development of personnel, (2) provision of employee health/medical insurance, and (3) provision of property, casualty and liability insurance.

 

8.  Teamwork– Interact with executive team members to provide consultative support to planning initiatives using human resources management information, analyses, reports and recommendations.

 

9.  Planning – Establish and implement short and long range human resources departmental goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures.

 

10.  Recordkeeping and reporting – Ensure that all human resources files and records are maintained in accordance with existing governmental and labor legal and government reporting requirements, including but not limited to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Department of Labor, workers’ compensation, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

 

Education

·  Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Marketing or related discipline.

 

Experience At least five to seven years of related experience in human resources.

·  Related experience in the major responsibilities described above.

·  Prefer related experience in a similar human resources capacity.

·  Prefer related experience in a growing entrepreneurial company.

 

Education, Knowledge and Skills

 

·  Initiative – Demonstrated ability to work on an independent basis with limited supervision and to be a self-starter/initiator in planning and completing assignments.

·  Communication skills – Persuasive, articulate and able to build consensus in communicating with others.

·  Analytical skills – Highly analytical with an inquiring mind and attention to detail in the evaluation and selection of personnel, definition of training needs and requirements, and the development of programs and practices.

·  Sense of urgency – Action-oriented, with a sense of urgency and responsiveness in meeting the needs of users.

·  Business/people judgment – High level of insight, intuitiveness and judgment in evaluating people, situations and problems.

·  Recruiting/selling skills – Able to make points, communicate ideas, and close transactions.

·  Computer proficiency – Proficiency in the use of personal computers, including office products applications.
