Library Assistant TAC Worldwide Companies is currently recruiting for a Library Assistant for one of the largest integrated energy companies in the world. This position is in their Richmond, CA office.Departmental Job Title: Library Assistant Overall scope/purpose of the project/position: Under supervision of the Information Specialist/Analyst (Librarian) the Library Assistant will perform duties including updating the database (data entry), photocopy articles, checking in journals, sending boxes to storage, recalling boxes from storage, etc. The Library Assistant will also assist the Librarian in handling information requests including rush requests from the legal department. The ideal candidate is very detailed oriented, naturally organized, able to work in a fast-paced environment, able to follow directions without repetitive instruction, flexible to change, able to prioritize, and have a basic understanding of library and information science. Must be able to sit or stand comfortably at a desk to perform data entry and assist in searches. Must be able to stand at the photocopier and scan the documents to be entered into the database. Must be able to lift and carry books/boxes, able to climb ladder to reach high stacks, and able to bend low to shelve books on bottom shelves. Size of Team: Two (Librarian and Administrative Assistant) will be as large as four (including two contract Library Assistants) Work Environment: Cubicle, library, and file rooms Responsibilities: The primary responsibility is to organize a file room/library with the supervision of the Librarian and customer. The Library Assistant along with assistance from the Librarian will need to assess the current state of the library, determine the best ways to organize it, write a project plan, discuss plan with Librarian and customer, organize the file room, and enter records for each of the items in the file room into a database. Alternatively, the Librarian can provide step by step instructions on how to successfully execute this project. In addition to the above will also maintain the integrity of the database. The Library Assistant will update the database on a daily basis. This involves data entry and being very detailed oriented. The Library Assistant will also need to scan numerous documents to be uploaded as PDFs to the database. The Library Assistant will also check the mail twice a day for journals that need to be checked in and shelved. In addition, will need to photocopy, assemble, and distribute documents on a regular basis. Specific Skill /Experience/PC Application Requirements: -Excel and Access - REQUIRED -Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures involved in working for a small corporate library environment. Work in a general library environment will suffice. -Fundamentals of library and information science -Methods of categorizing and classifying material -Must be able and willing to perform administrative and clerical tasks such as data entry and filing records. -Must have experience with Information retrieval such as database searches to retrieve records or files. -Must be able and willing to photocopy, assemble, and distribute documents. -Must be able to work with old and possibly dusty files. - 4 year degree (Any field) preferred; minimum AA or Library Tech certificate.
