Machine Shop Manager
Purvis Industries, a leading independent distributor of bearings, power transmission components and geared products, has a non-smoking position opening for an experienced machinist who can work and manage a machine shop at our Fort Worth location.
Machinist must be able to setup and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts, includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
Position requires attention to detail, analytical thinking, dependability, willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges with persistence in the face of obstacles. The job requires establishing and maintaining personally challenging achievement goals and exerting effort toward mastering tasks. Must be able to train and supervise personnel to assist in operation of machine shop.
Machinist operates machine tools such as boring tools, dial calipers, lathes, shapers, milling machines, broaching machines planers and drill presses following written or oral instructions in performing such machine operations as threading bolts, cutting keyways, and have the ability to weld and flame cut.
Skills
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers.
Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines.
Measure, examine and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
Study and read sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances; Auto-CAD knowledge.
Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
Lay out, measure and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts.
Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools, considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the appropriate one.
Individual must have knowledge of
o Machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
o Mathematics and their applications and knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
o Raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
o Design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings and models.
o Principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and the measurement of training effects.
o Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, leadership technique, production methods.
o Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
If you are able to manage one’s own time and the time of others, have experience with milling and lathe machine for at least 10 years, are motivated, creative, and a self-starter, then this is the position for you. Pay commensurates with skill level.
