Manager of Diversity
Job Description:Consistent with the goals of the department and WMI, the individual in this position will work with Senior Leaders, line managers and the human resource team to lead initiatives focused on Diversity and Inclusion programs. The individual is responsible for the development of Diversity/Inclusion planning models to identify competency, knowledge and talent gaps within WMI. The individual will develop specific programs to fill diversity and inclusion competency gaps to organizational effectiveness. This will be accomplished by working closely with leaders to improve talent management systems. Additionally, the individual will collaborate with department heads to ensure a diverse slate for key contributor and management positions, as well as support and partner in developing programs to identify employees for more significant responsibilities and business development. This position reports directly to the VP of Business Ethics and Chief Diversity and Staffing Officer. More specifically, the individual will be responsible for:1. Design and Deliver Training.2. Make presentations to external and internal audiences on WM Diversity/Inclusion Initiative.3. Develop tactics that will ensure diversity/inclusion mission and goals are attained, both long and short term.4. Coach Managers and Supervisors on how to work towards a diverse and inclusive organization.5. Collaborate with HR Staffing to ensure a diverse pipeline of candidates.6. Perform benchmark studies to ensure robust strategy and innovative solution.7. Collaborate and coordinate the completion of diversity and inclusion recognition applications.8. Integrate key diversity and inclusion messages in business applications using Communication and Community Relations functions, as well as Strategic Business Framework opportunities.9. Educate supervisors and managers on the EDII applicationsI. STRATEGIC: · Develop and execute a multidimensional diversity strategy with elements of the workplace, marketplace, workforce and community. · Improve organizational performance by driving leadership effectiveness and development in cross cultural/ethnic communication and management.· Continue improving the programs, policies, practices and processes associated with meeting the strategic and operational people issues of the organization. · Ensure the WMI Diversity Inclusion concepts are embedded and aligned with other HR and business unit processes and programs. · Provide direction to WMI business units on the integration of diversity/inclusion into all business systems including staffing, purchasing, surveys, leadership development, etc.· Develop appropriate policies and programs for effective management of the Diversity/Inclusion initiative· Driving effectiveness in employee communication through disciplines and practices to align goals, messages and information within the organization· Continually assess the competitiveness of Diversity & Inclusion programs and practices against relevant comparable companies industries and markets.· Develop a plan on how consumers will experience WMI diversity in local communities and other consumer venues.II. OPERATIONAL:· Monitor, schedule and ensure that consistent training programs are rolled out to the field and other WMI functional areas developing metrics to determine the effectiveness of initiative.· Support the organization in the development of processes and tools to achieve Best Place To Work consideration.· Develop and deliver Diversity & Inclusion training programs consistent with WMI people performance goals· Develop and manage timely response to all identified needs related to Diversity & Inclusion· Design and implement key organizational performance management systems (performance, development, employee development, project management methodology) that impact WMI’s diversity and inclusion initiative· Identify new training and other educational opportunities through assessment of performance improvement needs· Manage and implement both facilitator lead and technology based learning products to field and Corporate office· Oversee monitoring and maintenance of records of completion of training to ensure compliance and consistency throughout the company· Establish the framework for day-to-day operational activities utilizing a variety of innovative approaches and best practices methodologies.· Develop systemic and integrated inclusion OD solutions and ensure development and delivery of supporting tools and processes. · Ensure full integration with AA/EEO Compliance and Business Ethics programs· Formulate and recommend policies and objectives to ensure goal attainment and quality· Grow and sustain relationships between WMI and external diversity related organizations and external media· Record, monitor and communicate the metrics and accountability of the progress of our diversity/inclusion initiatives· Develop and adhere to and established training budget and manage vendors and supplier relationships.III. RELATIONAL:· Provide coaching to business leaders individually and collectively on diversity and inclusion issues. Be an effective coach to support managing performance improvement programs with diversity/inclusion implications· Provide subject matter expertise on systemic OD and Diversity and Inclusion solutions working closely with Senior Management and line management staff· Develop and participate in the WMI Diversity Council, including being responsible for developing meaningful agendas, providing follow-up and feedback to business unit Diversity Councils· Develop internal networks and effective means of communication for Diversity/Inclusion initiatives through formal and informal channels throughout the organization including maintaining/enhancing the WMI website.· Provide direction and support to employees via networks and other groups· Establish credibility throughout the organization with management and the employees in order to be an effective listener and problem solver of people issues· Coordinate programs with the Corporate and field departments and outside vendors· Develop and implement an internal and external communication strategy in partnership with the communications department, and act as the link to the office of AA/EEO complianceQUALIFICATIONS:· A degree from an accredited college in business or public administration, human resources management, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field. · 5-10 years of relevant, professional experience. This experience should include developing and facilitating diversity and inclusion training for managers including senior leaders and working collaboratively with members of senior management.· Minimum 3 years of relevant, professional diversity and inclusion experience· Relevant, professional experience in the design, development and management of large-scale training and performance improvement initiatives (preferably in a 1000+-person agency). · Experience in training trainers and employees utilizing advanced adult learning facilitation skills in an open environment is a strong plus. · Must possess both strong business and creative writing skills. · Deliver public and company presentations.PREFERRED SKILLS:· Knowledge of workforce planning, human capital management, organizational development and current HR trends. · Proven skills in project management and strategic planning. · Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.· Familiar with application(s) and submission process for the various ''best place to work'' recognition.Click here to apply via the Waste Management Career Opportunity PortalMinimum Education Required: BachelorYears of Experience Required: More than 5 yearsExpected Travel Time: None
