Manufacturing Accountant - $70,000 +
Job Description:General Summary:Applies the principles of accounting within an assigned area of accounting or group of funds. Compiles financial information, processes journal entries into various accounts, reconciles reports and financial data. Some familiarity with and an awareness of the laws and regulations that apply to an accounting function are required to ensure compliance. Possesses some knowledge of the university's financial accounting systems.Essential Job Functions:*Compiles financial information and assists in the preparation of reports.*Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.*Keeps abreast of laws and regulations that apply to a particular staff function or field of professional expertise to maintain up-to-date compliance.*Initiates and processes journal entries into various accounts.*Reconciles sub-ledgers to the general ledger and resolves differences.*Provides information to faculty, staff, students, and individuals or organizations outside of the university; explains accounting transactions; resolves accounting issues and discrepancies.*Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.*Applies a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verifies documents for completeness and compliance with government and private agencies.Scope of Responsibility:*Knows the formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures which may include some familiarity of other departments within the school/division. Is sensitive to the interrelationship of both people and functions within the department.Decision Making:On a regular and continuous basis, exercises administrative judgement and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service within the functional area.Communication:Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate requiring good oral and written communication skills.Education:Required: Two years college with courses in accounting, business, or equivalent experiencePreferred: Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related fieldExperience:Two years related work experience required. Three years experience preferred. Additional education may be substituted for experience. Proficiency in the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/ or word processing required.
