Job Description:GM Planworks, the General Motors-dedicated planning unit of Starcom Mediavest Group, was created specifically to manage the company's estimated $3.2 billion planning assignment and also has been awarded the GM buying assignment. Working in partnership with such GM divisions as Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Hummer, Saab, Pontiac/GMC and Saturn, GM Planworks provides complete communications planning and buying across all major traditional media, as well as digital expertise ranging from interactive television to web-enabled phones.OverviewGM Planworks is currently looking for a Media Buyer for its Video Investment Group (this includes national television, VOD, etc.) in New York. This individual will manage dayparts by ensuring proper allocation of brands, stewarding buys, negotiating scatter and maintaining the rating file. This Buyer will also be a liaison between the buying team and planning team for assigned GM division.Responsibilities Daypart/Inventory Maintenance- Stewardship – Evaluate network performance- Analyze needs for AD (audience deficiency) units- Review allocations to ensure adherence to conditions (double spotting, antitheticals, budgets, etc.)- Cost adjustments- Create codes and update estimates for Netpak- Run reports to handle exceptions - Implement option pickup/exercising- Maintain network rating file for each daypart- Screen programming and evaluate content and appropriateness for client/brand.- Create and coordinate Reco books and letters- MIS discrepancy resolutionNegotiation- Negotiate make goods- Negotiate scatter- Analyze competitive analysis reports- Track daypart ratings- Update STD reports- Write post analysis and stewardship reports- Put together weeklies- Mix analysis- Run proposalsStrategic Management- Manage national broadcast execution for assigned division- Oversee divisional program allocations for division- Steward division broadcast budgets- Coordinate divisional schedule changes within buying group- Aid in development of national broadcast plans and optimizations- Coordinate assigned divisions upfront specs, options, scatter and all broadcast plan changes- Maintain communication/integration with assigned division's traffic team at creative agency- Occasional travel to DetroitSupervisory- Train assistant buyers- Review assistant buyer's work for accuracyRequirements- Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university*Advertising, marketing, business administration or communications preferred. - At least 1 year of media experience- Excellent written and verbal communication skills- Ability to prioritize and organize open items for self and assistant buyer- Ability to accurately apply principles of media math- Demonstrated leadership ability- A proven track record of success throughout college career and previous employment - Exhibit strong work ethic and ability to manage multiple projects at same time - Demonstrate a working knowledge of basic media concepts, terminology, media math and media plan execution - Demonstrate strong technical skills and ability to learn and utilize all computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint - Demonstrate good judgment and ability to handle questions from outside vendors - Demonstrate strong time management skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team- Able to manage multiple tasks, meeting tight deadlines under pressure - Detail-oriented and able to produce accurate work product - Demonstrate reliability, initiative and consistent work habits - Demonstrate strong analytical skills
