They form the foundation of our SUPERVALU Advantage - the key to our continuing success.Title: PURPOSEResponsible for the preparation, filing and paying of corporate federal, state and local income taxes, sales and use taxes, property taxes, franchise taxes, escheat liabilities and operating licenses. Work to minimize corporate tax liability through sound application of tax laws and regulations.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES Responsible for the preparation of federal, state and local tax returns and related reports to ensure Company compliance with tax laws and regulations Assist in organization, negotiation and settlement of tax audits with various taxing authorities Work to minimize tax liability through sound and informed application of tax laws and regulations permitting alternative treatment of taxable items Keep current on new tax legislation and court decisions to determine effect on the Company Work with the Property Accounting Group to ensure that all fixed asset reporting, including depreciation, gains/losses and AMT, and asset location are computed and included properly on all returns Work as a liaison to other departments on new projects and initiatives requiring tax planning or tax research Responsible for sales/use and business taxes for all operating areas, including designing and implementing systems to ensure proper collection and remittance Maintain LIFO inventory system, including coordination of statistical sampling and preparation of adjusting entries for quarterly and annual reports Responsible for compliance with all state escheat tax laws Responsible for real and personal property tax function and the minimization of all related taxes for corporate assets Responsible for licensing function for all retail units Responsible for accurate and timely accounting entries for the Company’s fiscal and period closings Complete special related accounting and tax projects as assigned by Tax Director SCOPENumber of Associates Supervised:Directly: 5 to 15Indirectly: 0 Supervise, review, schedule, and coordinate work activities of assigned associates to meet and/or exceed the responsibilities above Make recommendations to Tax Director regarding personnel actions, including hiring, termination, layoff, promotion and salary increases Evaluate work of associates and prepare annual and interim performance evaluations Assign appropriate associates to tasks and instruct them in the proper performance of work and familiarize them with Company policies Mentor and train accounting staff to build a team environment and energize associates JOB REQUIREMENTS Relevant Experience, Education, Certification, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field with CPA license or advanced degree required Previous extensive tax experience required preferably with Parent Company Possess good communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be able to prepare researched documentation to substantiate a position and present it in an appropriate manner to outside audit personnel Possess ability to work with and through others to achieve desired results General knowledge of EDP applications and computer capabilities.
