Operations Manager- Hartford, CT
Summary of Job:
Responsible for the overseeing of operating center staff, including interviewing, hiring, training, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and solving problems as needed. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws and responsible for all quality functions and productivity throughout the Operating Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· In conjunction with General Manager, organizes and schedules production operations by assessing type of mail, volumes and staffing levels needed to process subscribed volumes.
· Accountable for quality function throughout the operating center. Assures quality of all mail received from receipt of the mail, through processing and final presentation of the mail to the USPS.
· Assures completion and correctness of required USPS and internal reports, job costing reports and application of all USPS postal regulations.
· Insures maximization of productivity through timely and efficient workflow of the mail and development and implementation of effective sort schemes.
· Insures coordination of the various departments such as quality control, metering, hand sort, automation and transportation.
· Accompanies VP/General Manager on sales calls to give assistance with operational questions and develop rapport with the customer.
· Assists General Manager with the budgeting process and analyses various reports generated from PoInts System and prepares other reports as requested.
· Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required. · Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals and USPS postal regulations. Ability to prepare reports and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers and employees.
· Knowledge of supervisory techniques to accomplish instruction, motivation and training of personnel.
· Strong leadership skills.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills to meet with customers, accompany General Manager on sales calls and respond in writing to USPS for appeal letters and requests for changes in procedures.
· Ability to calculate and prepare various reports regarding volumes, rejects and other pertinent data.
· Proficiency knowledge in spreadsheet and database applications in Microsoft Office environment. Knowledgeable of PC applications and statistical reporting. Solid understanding of use of Windows environment to set up production runs.
· Ability to solve non-standard problems that arise in the production environment. Basic understanding of Wage and Hour, FLSA, Labor Laws, and other governmental regulations effecting workforce.
· Ability to stand, walk, stoop and bend up to 50% of the time. Required to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
Experience/Education/Training Requirements:
· Associates Degree or a minimum of 5 years of progressively more responsible experience in a production environment, preferably the mailing industry.
· 3-5 years of supervisory experience in an operating center averaging the 5M or more pieces of mail per week with a 24 hour operating cycle. Complete familiarity of USPS requirements and/or regulations and their application to PSI operations.

While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak clearly, hear and use hands and fingers. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or lift and/or move maximum of 10 lbs.
Work Environment:
Normal office environment and production environment. May be exposed to dust and fluctuation temperatures while working on the production floor.
