This position encompasses a combination of content management, portal
development and communication duties. Works closely with major business units, senior leaders and Corporate Communications department team to identify, prioritize and publish content to the portal. Assists in the development of portal content, including navigation, interfaces, and pages. Applies governance standards to ensure that all material complies with corporate guidelines, policies and policies.
Requires a bachelors degree and 3-5 years of experience. Must have
knowledge of Portals, Content Management and HTML development. A degree
of creativity and latitude is required.
Basic Function:
Manages the end-to-end process for creating, cataloging and publishing
content to the Brown-Forman portal. This position requires the ability
to understand and organize content for Web publication using B-F
standard web-delivery tools and HTML, and involves working across
multiple virtual teams to clearly communicate KM objectives and
priorities, manage and manipulate a complex list of continuously-
changing information and drive stakeholders to meet their project
commitments on time. Support the Knowledge Manager, Enterprise Content
Manager as related to other B-F information repositories; Participate in the development of site design, taxonomy, usability and functionality as appropriate.
Responsibilities:
Content Management:
Manages the day-to-day process for authoring, publishing, approving and archiving content according to guidelines. Assist content owners in writing submissions suitable for publication. Migrates and integrates content from other sources to the portal. Ensures content is consistently up-to-date, well-organized and usable. Archives expired content following Portal Governance standards. Respond to and resolve inquiries from the portal.
Develops and manages the Content Manager forum, a space to offer online interactive training and tips on managing content on the Portal to enable a state of self-governance on the Portal.
Repository Management:
Maintains the corporate taxonomy and back-end portal folder structure.
Assigns permissions to content based on content classification rules.
Maintains workflows, subscriber groups and keyword lists. Places content in appropriate level of folder structure. Assigns metadata properties to all content.
Governance:
Performs completeness and consistency reviews of documents to ensure
that all material complies with corporate guidelines and policies.
Ensures the quality and integrity of published documents. Maintains
overall consistency in style, tone and quality of content.
User Interface:
Designs and develops Portal page layouts using HTML while optimizing
existing Portal usability and navigational elements. Assesses client
needs and develops these specifications; plans and implements projects
from initial conceptual design through coding, client approval and final delivery. Fosters continued education in the Web development field to deliver more robust Portal features that are more efficient, effective and user friendly.
Marketing:
Promotes the Portal and Knowledge Management via networking and
marketing opportunities such as: Global Orientation, Portal Demos,
Portal Training, Daughters and Sons to Work Days, and new initiatives
communication strategies
Training:
Creates and develops content manuals and other help documentation
(portal tips, etc.) in collaboration with TSG Training.
Metrics:
Work with Content owners to evaluate usage trends and determine areas
for improvement; Perform frequent reviews of portal information
architecture to identify user needs; Make recommendations for actions
based upon feedback; Facilitate the implementation of steps to address
those needs.
Ongoing/New Development:
Maintains an understanding and working knowledge of current online
trends and technologies, including best practices in usability, page
design and writing for the Web. Identifies opportunities to migrate
content to the portal; includes existing B-F Websites, Lotus Notes
databases and content on shared drives, as applicable.
Must Experience:
Bachelor's degree with three to five years experience in
Communications/Journalism, Technical Writing or Library Science
Experience working in portal or content management environments
Experience developing strong interpersonal relationships through
customer focus, facilitation, collaboration, consensus building,
negotiation, tact and diplomacy
Demonstrated ability to act independently, prioritize projects and
initiate direct without significant supervision
Experience in Web authoring using HTML
Experience using video editing software
Track record of completing assignments and projects with accuracy and
within established timeframes
Preferred Experience:
Five or more years experience in electronic/Web publishing or Web
editing; Content management or internet research highly desirable
Experience developing taxonomies that organize and present information
in logical ways
Experience using computer platforms and operating systems with deep
internet navigation, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, web publishing and
content management software skills.
A blend of editorial and technical expertise is preferred
Basic Graphic Design and/or web layout experience
Experience using Photoshop, Fireworks or similar graphics package
SAP portal and/or Documentum content management experience
Information architecture, taxonomy or library science experience
