Postdoctoral Fellow - Proteomics
SRI International, an independent non-profit organization founded as the Stanford Research Institute in 1946, is a leader in the development of new products for the treatment and diagnosis of disease, primarily in the areas of cancer, infectious disease, neuroscience, and immunology. SRI's Biosciences Division (www.sri.com/biosciences) works in several ways, conducting basic research like an academic institution, performing drug discovery and biologic development like a biotechnology company, and carrying out preclinical development and pharmaceutical services like a contract research organization – from "Idea to IND"™.
The Division works with partners and clients on a broad range of preclinical discovery and development projects, utilizing its expertise in medicinal chemistry, custom organic synthesis, efficacy pharmacology and safety evaluation, pharmacokinetics and metabolism studies, analytical chemistry, formulation design, drug product manufacturing, project management and regulatory affairs. Many studies are conducted under FDA’s GLP and GMP regulations. SRI currently has several drugs on the market, several more in clinical trials, half a dozen in preclinical development, and has assisted in the development of more than 130 other products that made it to clinical trials or reached the market.
Center for Advanced Drug Research (CADRE) of SRI International is hiring proteomics specialists. A number of Postdoctoral Fellow positions are available in SRI CADRE at Shenandoah Valley in Harrisonburg, VA. The multidisciplinary proteomics and protein engineering program at CADRE is in the area of infectious and neglected diseases. The Postdoctoral Fellows will participate in identifying bio-markers and diagnostics, characterizing molecular targets, and developing anti-infective therapies.
Applicants will have technical expertise in all the different facets of mass spectrometry, and chromatography. Successful candidates are expected to continue obtaining national and international research funding, publishing their results in refereed journals, and mentoring junior researchers. Research at SRI is highly interactive and collaborative, and we expect applicants to contribute to our intellectually open culture. There are extensive opportunities for collaboration within SRI, in particular, the Centers for Infectious Diseases and Biodefense and Computational and Structural Biology. Similarly, collaborations are encouraged with federal agencies and with universities. Opportunities exist for holding adjunct appointments at a local university.
Requirements:
The position requires a Ph.D. in Protein Biochemistry or a related discipline with expertise in proteomics. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in hybrid MS and LC-MS/MS analyses of complex mixtures of peptides and proteins on nano- or micro-scales. Candidates nearing completion of their doctoral work and / or those up to 2 years of post-doctoral experience will be considered for this position.
The successful candidate must have:
Extensive mass spectrometry knowledge and hands-on experience with TOF-TOF, Q-TOF, and ion-trap/orbitrap platforms.Expertise in database searching for peptide/protein identification using Mascot, BioWorks, and related software.Hands-on experience in sample preparation and separation techniques related to proteomics including two-dimensional chromatography, gel-electrophoresis and NanoLC.Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
