Thank you for your interest!Description: Prepares text, including developing, writing, editing, rewriting and/or formatting technical and non-technical material for publication. Examples of products include, but are not limited to, reports, manuals, bulletins, newsletters, instructional material, and hardware/ software documentation. The Publications Specialist is an individual producer who applies a comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of publication concepts and practices. Incumbents are competent to work on assignments that vary widely in scope and complexity from moderate to high. Source documentation regularly requires considerable interpretive judgment and is affected by such factors as expediency, timing, sensitivity of material, etc. Incumbents apply industry, client, and/or ACS’ standards and work under general supervision. The Publications Specialist generally is subject to critical publication deadlines and is capable of handling heavy workloads. Errors at this level can cause considerable delay, expense, and/or disruption to organization. Incumbents regularly provide guidance to and assist in training of less experienced staff. REPRESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Compiles, organizes, rewrites, and edits source material provided by technical and non-technical staff, vendors and manufacturers, etc. Provides publication direction to ACS’ originating departments in development of technical documentation and coordinates efforts to ensure completeness of final product. Provides expertise regarding presentation, including organization, format, layout, and style. Edits documentation for accuracy, clarity, coherence, and consistency, referring to accepted standards of editorial practice. Rewrites material and/or works with originator(s) to affect necessary correction(s) and modifications. Prepares or assists in the preparation of detailed instructions, outlines, and assignment schedules for word processing, graphics, photo lab, printing and repro services. Coordinates workflow between documentation originator(s) and publication support areas to ensure professional product is completed per specifications, clarify instructions, etc. Reviews final product for physical presentation and intelligibility to ensure quality of final product. Seeks timely correction as appropriate. May assist in developing production standards and/or make recommendations for improvements in overall production to improve future submissions. Reviews existing publications for purpose of modifying, revising, and/or rewriting and works with originators to determine timely, cost-effective approaches. May participate in client reviews of publications. May assist in training and development of less experienced staff. Keeps apprised of developments in field of expertise to ensure currency. Other duties as assigned by Manager. Education and Typical Years of Experience: Bachelors Degree in related field or equivalent work experience. 2 - 5 years progressively more responsible experience in technical/professional services environment, demonstrating familiarity with a comprehensive range of publication assignments Specific Requirements: Candidate that is experienced in using the following software is preferred: Adobe Acrobat Professional, FrameMaker, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
