For more information about PolyOne visit www.polyone.com GENERAL SUMMARY: Candidate will be responsible for development of thermoplastic elastomeric formulations as driven by the customer’s applications. This will include translating customer needs into specific formulations, assisting customer trial and solving problems. The selected candidate will conduct hands-on experiments in developing formulations including compounding, molding, testing, and will assist with scale-up processes. Candidate will also provide expertise to various departments throughout global organization. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Involved in projects within the department of Product Development. • Manage multiple independent projects or joint projects; can work independently or with teams. • Develops research plan, designs experiments, outlines research procedures to be followed, and identifies and/or provides training to subordinate personnel in order to carry out research. • Plans schedule of research according to customer commitments and establishes daily and weekly routines necessary to meet project timetable. • Has expertise in physical characterization / testing of polymers and thermoplastic elastomers. • Has expertise in one or more processing or fabrication technology: Brabender and / or Single-Screw and/or Twin-Screw extruder, and/ or Injection Molding Machines. • Conducts well thought out and well designed experiments. • Works with customers; participates in meetings and/or customer trial. Makes significant contributions. • Writes project reports and communicates with customers as well as internally. • Supervises one or more technicians as needed • Presents technical work within R&D, to customers or at conferences with minimum guidance. • Provides expertise in the field of research to other department members. Required Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: -Candidate should have a Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Engineering, or related field or at least 4-years industrial experience in the plastics industry, preferably in the Thermoplastic Elastomer compounding area, with a MS degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related field. -Candidate should have a fundamental understanding of the structure-property relationships in polymers, compounding, and an intimate knowledge of recent developments in the polymer industry, preferably in Thermoplastic Elastomers, their applications, characterization and features/benefits. -Good written and verbal communication skills are required. Required Length & Type of Experience: -Experience in extrusion processes such as cast or blown film, tubing or profile is a plus.
