POSITION
Senior Metals Scientist
LOCATION
Kelso, WA. CAS Kelso is the largest laboratory in the network with over 25,000 square feet of laboratory and support staff space. Kelso is a scenic corner of SW Washington ideally situated 145 miles south of Seattle and 50 miles north of Portland along the I-5 corridor. With a comfortable rural life style and small-town charm, residents are removed from urban congestion yet have ample access to city amenities and abundant year-round outdoor activities.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES
Senior Scientist with a combination of knowledge and education to be able to perform the majority of inorganic procedures currently done at CAS/Kelso. In addition, an in-depth undestanding of the chemistry and related theory behind the associated procedures will be necessary in order to enable the successful completion of method development activities, enhancement of current procedures, troubleshooting of current systems, and technical training and development of current staff. The position will also require the successful candidate to prepare at least one applications paper (for presentation) and/or several technical notes (for distribution to clients) per year. In addition to the development and training aspects of the position, the successful candidate will also be required to fill in as needed for production purposes, including coverage for the Metals Department Manager in his absence. Over the course of a year, the position is estimated to consist of approximately 60% development-related activities and approximately 40% production-related activities. The position does not require direct supervision of staff other than directing specific activities related to development projects.
REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
BS in chemistry and a minimum of 10 years laboratory experience. An advanced degree with thesis related to the analysis of trace metals is preferred, and can be substituted for some of the experience, depending on the area of study in graduate school. Must be able to multi-task. Strong organizational skills are important. The ability to troubleshoot and perform routine instrument maintenance on many of the analytical systems is required. Experience working in an Analytical Laboratory that performs a wide range of procedures is required.
