Safety, Training and Compliance Specialist

Tidewater is currently seeking a Safety, Training and Compliance Specialist to assist our fleet and maintenance yard with the understanding and implementation of the Company’s Safety Program, including the Safety Policy and Philosophy Statement, and all other safety related initiatives. This position will also assist the same work group with regulatory compliance, and any related training requirements.
General Duties:Ride one upriver tow round trip from Vancouver to Pasco, and back to Vancouver, one round trip from Pasco to Lewiston and back to Pasco, and one round trip from Vancouver to Astoria each month to observe work conditions, listen to safety concerns, conduct training, drills, safety meetings, and hold required inspections and compliance auditsConduct yard inspections and safety and compliance audits.Look for safety gaps in our vessel and maintenance yard operations and intervene at the point of work, as is appropriate, to prevent a dangerous operation from continuing.Oversee and manage the response to and investigation of reports of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; reviews recommendations and/or take appropriate action in order to mitigate potential safety, health, and environmental risks.Advise workforce, managers, and supervisors on equipment problems or work practices that could lead to a safety concern, and propose solutions.
Physical and other requirements:Can be continuously away from home for up to seven days aboard our vessels.Ability to walk on steel or wood decks, around obstacles, on moving, pitching, or rolling decks or barge surfaces.Ability to climb or descend ladders, stairways, etc. to access various vessel areas and barges.Physical and mental ability to run all of the office equipment. This requires the physical ability to bend, twist, lift up to 20 pounds regularly, finger small items, see, and hear. Ability to read, write, understand, and effectively communicate in English
