Senior Accountant

Large, publicly-held energy company seeks qualified Senior Accountant to join their team.

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Provide general accounting support for assigned companies and field accounting operations.

 

DUTIES:

1. Reconcile and analyze balance sheet accounts for assigned companies.

 

2. Prepare and review monthly journal vouchers for posting to General Ledger.

 

3. Review inter-company balances and correct out-of-balance situations.

 

4. Clear edits during month end close on a timely basis.

 

5. Compile and disseminate monthly Budvar Reports for review.

 

6. Prepare schedules for the financial reporting group as assigned.

 

7. Perform Balance Sheet and Income Statement review for assigned cost centers and companies.

 

8. Complete special projects as assigned on a timely basis.

 

9. Serve as liaison between field office personnel and Houston Corporate departments.

 

10.Adhere to the month end close checklist to ensure all month end procedures are fully completed under the strict time schedule and to document such review on the checklist.

 

11. Ensure compliance with the company’s policies and procedures.

 

12. Maintain sufficient supporting documentation for all journal vouchers, income statement

budget variance reports, MD&A and any other documents to support decision making.

 

13. Maintain continuous compliance with the requirements of Sarbanes Oxley

 

14.Obtain an understanding of company structures and organizational relationship of companies within regions and assigned companies.

 

15. Prepare bank reconciliation of Houston controlled accounts.

 

16. Prepare audit schedules as directed.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree with major in Accounting or Finance or commensurate experience and job related training.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Two years experience for degreed individual or individual with 5-7 years related work experience.

 

SKILLS:

Proficiency in spreadsheets and word processing.  Working knowledge of general ledger accounting with analytical skills and attention to detail.  ERP Systems experience a plus. Familiarity with Sarbanes Oxley a plus.
